After having microdermabrasion on my arms, when I washed my hands, I noticed scratches on my arms and wanted to know if this is normal?

Skin layer removal: Microdermabrasion is a way of removing a thin layer of dirt and dead skin from your face. A spray of fine crystals or a wand imbedded with an abrasive material such as diamond dust is used along with gentle suction to mechanically scrape and clean the skin. The treatment increases circulation and stimulates collagen growth. There is almost no downtime and minimal discomfort.See 1 more doctor answer
Refreshening: MDA is a rather superficial scraping of the outer layers of the skin off with several methods varying from a fine semi sterile sand to a diamond tip scraper. MDA will refresh the texture an tome of the skin after repeated applications it may reduce acne, unclog pores and possibly tighten skin by collagen stimulation

Depends...: ...On what you want it to do. Microdermabrasion is a superficial peeling procedure that removes or lessens surface discoloration and sun damage. There is little or no recovery time, but a series of them is usually required. It works, if your expectations are realistic, and if you have it done by someone with the proper skills, i.e. Not some nurse's assistant in a spa.
Somewhat effective: Portable microdermabrasion devices made for home use tend to be have a very weak suction and abrasive component. Although using these devices is better than doing nothing at all, the effectiveness of home devices do not come close to a professional microdermabrasion.
Not exactly.: By itself microdermabrasion only removes the top surface of the skin. However, this makes your skin more porous so anti-aging preparations or laser treatments will be better absorbed. You can accomplish the same thing with a scrub or a gommage. Done regularly, any exfoliation method will teach your skin to "turn itself over" which will reduce the outward signs of aging.See 3 more doctor answers
More depth: Microdermabrasion is one of the more extreme ways to exfoliate by "sandblasting" with small crystals. Exfoliation in general means removing some of the outer layers of dead skin to freshen the appearance and allow better penetration of products. This can be done with mild chemicals or abrasive scrubs. The mechanical means of microdermabrasion is felt to be more thorough.
No Age Limit: There is no age limit in performing the procedure.See 2 more doctor answers
Microdermabrasion: Microdermabrasion is a skin rejuvenation procedure. It exfoliates the outer layers of the skin making your skin feel smoother and more radiant and fresher after the procedure. It usually requires multiple procedures for maximum effectiveness. For better stronger results fraxel, erbium or pixel laser are suggested.See 1 more doctor answer
Deeper Treatment: Devices designed for home use are usually very "watered down". Manufacturers do not want to get sued because people misuse their products. Microdermabrasion machines used by professionals will give you a much deeper exfoliation with stronger suction to clean out your pores. The advantage of home use products is that you may be able to do it more regularly because it's cheaper.
Microdermabrasion: My aesthetician's patients have found that dermaplaning (which is done with a blade that gives an aggressive exfoliation) is much more effective than microdermabrasion. Make sure that the person performing the procedure is well qualified.
Controversial: The particles in scrubs at generally larger than those used in microdermabrasion and do not always accomplish as uniform an exfoliation.
Exfolliation Facial: A spray of fine crystals or a wand embedded with and abrasive material such as diamond dust is used to scrape a layer of dead skin off your face. Suction is used to remove debris from clogged pores. Microdermabrasion can help stimulate collagen and lighten blemishes and fine lines.See 1 more doctor answer
Week or so.: These are mild/ minimal exfoliative treatments. That last only a week or so. So it depends on your budget and how much benefit you see from it.See 1 more doctor answer
