Goal is early diagnosis and keep the curvature controlled during growth spurt. In idiopathic (most common) bracing is generally recommended for degrees of curvature 20-40. They really don't have benefit in a adult. They don't improve the curve and to cover the whole curve means they are cumbersome and can lead to stiffness and atrophy. Depends: You may want to discuss this with your doctor. In most cases, the brace is known as a 23 hour brace meaning you wear it all times except for showering etc. There are other types of braces and in my patients with mild curves that are not likely to progress i let my ptients wear them less.
