Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

Takasubu can cause heart attack in a distressed woman and perhaps that is the root of the event. Smoking can undo all the good for the things you mentioned. ...Read more

Calories burned, is it all voodoo? HR monitor, Elliptical, and online calculators differ by up to 50%. Is one more accurate? I'm 250 lbs, FFM 180 lbs

Beware the machines: While exercise machines attempt to alert users of calories burned and wattage acheived, the reality is unless in a sport medicine clinic, you probably are not getting accurate results. I am a strong proponent of regular exercise, and then increasing intensity and duration as tolerated. However, it is what you put in your body that is going to make the biggest difference to your fitness goals. ...Read more

Are you overweight?: You probably need to lose weight. Don't eat too much and join a gym -- and invest in walking exercise 2 miles everyday. Your ideal weight depends on your height -- if you are 5'11 or 6', your weight should be 180, if you are 5'8, your weight 160 etc. ...Read more

Probably normal: Low eosinophils are often normal. It is impossible to say in an individual case like yours without a full history. Alcohol intoxication and over production of certain steroids in the body (such as cortisol) like from working out are causes. If you are a health regular exerciser your doctor would probably not mention it. ...Read more

Is the official hCG diet plan.Com safe? I am 12 lbs. Over weight, eat right and exercise. 49, f.

NO: The more I have investigated the otc hcg--which is not HCG . A pregnancy hormone-similar to lh/progesterone effects. The rx hcg may be real human chorionic gonadotropin, but we do not understand the effects it may have on patients---esp if they would have an unknown early cancer? Do not take any chances. Apparently, you can get rx HCG online by a doc------not o-k. ...Read more

Why does GFR test ask about african-american? What's optimal gfr? Are age, gender, and race taken into account? Why?

It's the muscle mass: The muscle mass is more in african americans vs others, men vs women, young vs old. When muscle mass is high, creatinine will be expected to be high without actual kidney weakness (overestimates kidney weakness). Accordingly, we need to factor these elements in the equation to estimate kidney function (gfr). ...Read more

Why does it appear that dieticians download patient nutrition info from a standard template that popular on-line sites have? Case-by-case has ended?

Nutrition: In the nutrition world one size does not fit all - so I agree with you. Sadly, it is unlikely that the dietitians who have a fixed "menu", will ever change. How about you doing some online reading and getting a good item out to the folks who need more help. Please keep me posted. ...Read more

Is BMI really an indicator of longevity? Ex: i read studies on BMI of 20 being associated with longevity. I'm 17 BMI and can not gain almost 6ft .

No: Abnormal marked deviations from a healthy weight in either direction may be indicative of a metabolic disorder but bmi, in and of itself, does not indicate a state of health. As long as your body is getting all the essential vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, protein , water, antioxidants and fiber nutrients from whole foods, don't worry about your being underweight. ...Read more

Health and wellness: what are some legitimate criticisms to david agus' book "the end of illness?"

Probably none: Basically it is a book about diet that is appalling in the U.S. I agree that it is the major cause of disease. If you put the wrong fuel into your car, you know what would happen. First it might run poorly and eventually it might ruin the engine. Our bodies and particularly brains run efficiently when we give it the right food. ...Read more
