Scared About Having Too Many Ct Scans Any Data
Caution: A ct abdomen equals about 500 chest xrays, add a pelvis, another 500. This is 5 years background radiation and exposure is cumulative. Worse when young! think twice about the real need before doing xrays. For more about risks and benefits of ct scans see fda webs: http://www.Fda.Gov/radiation-emittingproducts/radiationemittingproductsandprocedures/medicalimaging/medicalx-rays/ucm115317.Htm. ...Read more
Ct uses xrays taken an 360 degrees combined with a computer to see"inside" the body. The table moves as the xray tube and detectors spin around the patient 10 times a second or more! the image shows excellent soft tissue detail, enhanced with injection of intravenous contrast or oral contrast. This way the body is shown in slices, in any plane, usually axially, but ...Read more
I've had about 8 CT scans this year can it kill me ?Im scared.Lot of problems .Can i die from that many? What symptoms to look for?
Understand concern: The question is why he had had 8 ct scans in 1 year. You will not die from that many, but you are receiving a small dose of radiation with each one.Your cumulative risk of getting cancer increases over your lifetime if you continue to get scans at this rate. Please stick with one doctor and let him/her manage your care and figure out what is going on with you. ...Read more
I'm 17 I've had 2 CT scans of the head in one year I'm so scared that I'm going to get cancer! I need some reassurance I'm freaking out !
You will be ok: Radiation exposure is a necessary consequence of CT scanning. However, the amount of exposure from one head CT is equal to about half of the annunal exposure to radiation that someone gets who lives in Denver. In the amount that you are talking about some experts think that radiation from 10-15 head CTs might offer a 'slight' increase in cancer. ...Read more
I have had 3 ct scans of my lungs. Now I need one for headaches. Is this too much radiation? Scared.
You're fine: Each CT scan delivers radiation equivalent to being an airline pilot or flight crew member for a few months. Nobody's shown a measurable extra risk for cancer in these folks. If you need a scan, get it -- radiation is the least of your worries if you need a CT for headache. The prospect of brain disease is serious and I wish you a good outcome. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have Brain anurysm anxiety! I'm so scared that I have one. I've smoked for a while and drank alchohol a good bit. I've had 2 CT scans were normal?
Stay calm: No one can promise you that you won't have a brain aneurysm but your risk is no greater than anyone else's and we all live with risk everyday. One must be somewhat fatalistic. We all will die of something one day. You're young (17). There is no need to think about this until you're much older and have had many more experiences to put life and death into perspective. Try to take it 1 day at a time. ...Read more
I had 2 ct scans and 5 x-rays in past 2 years. All ok. No more. Scared of diagnostic radiation. Am I for sure going to get cancer compared to others?
No: With 2 CT scans and 5 x-rays in 2 years, you have had significant radiation exposure. it is unlikely that you have significantly increased your likelihood of getting a cancer in the future with that small amount of exposure. However, your concern is based on fact as excessive radiation exposure can increase cancer risk. Yor are 23 and should not continue that pattern of radiation exposure. ...Read more

Less dose than airli: This is a very low dose compared to other risks in our environments. It is less than an airline attendant who makes a couple of transcontinental trips a year. I think we would all be well advised to limit unnecessary radiation but if there is a medical need i would have no problem getting another ct or pet scan. The only exception would be a pregnant woman in first trimester. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
I had two ct scans of the head when I was 15 and I got them because I had convinced myself that I had anuerysm now scared ct will give me brain cancer?
Lifetime risk: I understand that you are concerned about an increased risk of cancer from the radiation from diagnostic imaging. Although there is an increased risk of developing cancer from anything that produces radiation, the benefits from these studies are likely to be greater than the risks. Go to www.xrayrisk.com to calculate your increased risk. ...Read more
I'm 17 female I've dyed my hair a lot and I have had 3 CT scans I'm scared that I'm gonna get brain cancer?
Increased Risk: No good data on whether hair dye increases cancer risk; best answer: almost certainly not. CT scans are another story. There is increased risk of radiation-caused cancer from CT scans. The risk is very low but not zero. A CT is a highly sophisticated Xray which uses the same type of radiation. Doctors have begun to move away from CT where possible, but sometimes CT is the only imaging study ...Read more
Risk for cancer after 2 CT scans in a month? 1 abd/pelvis + 1 CT lung angiogram to rule out PE. 32 female. Scared!
Low risk overall: It is commonly thought that the extra risk of any one person developing a fatal cancer from a typical CT procedure is about 1 in 2,000. In contrast, the lifetime risk of dying from cancer in the U.S. population is about 1 in 5. However, the lifetime risk of cancer from a single CT scan was small—about one case of cancer for every 10,000 CTS m.cancer.gov/topics/factsheets/CT Mobile-friendly - ...Read more

Take a deep breath: Life is full of surprises, some good, some no good at all. This might all be a false alarm. Your child will sense your panic. My niece has been losing weight and has stomach pain , doctors want to do a cat scan, im very scared?
What is the danger of having too many CT scans? I'm concerned about the radiation. I've had 3 CT scans within one year. I have heard that people have died of bone cancer caused by too many xrays. Is this the same?
Too small to measure: Pilots get an extra 3 mSV yearly and radiation workers up to an extra 20 mSV yearly. This is cumulative. A common CT scan delivers may be 3, a very sick person who needs chest and abdomen with and without contrasts gets 40. No one has been able to measure any increased cancer risk in pilots or radiation workers. I'd stop worrying. If you need the scan, don't hesitate. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Potentially: You were born with all your eggs already formed - you don't make new ones. Ct scans use ionizing radiation. If your pelvis was included in the scans, your ovaries were radiated. Your pelvis should have been shielded with lead if your pelvis didn't need to be included in the scans. Only get a ct if you really need one. Sometimes an ultrasound or an MRI can answer the same questions. ...Read more
