Scar Tissue Lump Under Skin
The body is composed of tissue that are classically described as beiing derived from three basic embyonic layers known as the endoderm, mesoderm and ectoderm that then differentiate into the structures that compose the body such as skin, soft tissues, bone, muscle, organs, etc. Stem cells are not differentiated and have the potential to ...Read more
Presacral ultrasound shows "thickening/edema of subcutaneous fatty tissue". PAINFUL and hard lump under the skin and can be felt. Surgical removal?
U/S is non specific: You need diagnosis. More history. The U/S adds a little but not enough. MRI would also add info, but again may not be enough. MRI would be most sensitive in seeing borders and might give useful info for a surgeon, for ex. vascularity. Only surgeons can decide on incisional bx. vs. excision. Hacking around is cheapest, but for me (a radiologist) MRI is good to avoid surprises and safe to do. ...Read more

Hi, can abscess drainage leave hard lump under the skin something like a scar tissue. Abscess was pretty big and healed by granulation 10 yrs ago?
See PCP/Urologist: Fresh scar tissue anywhere will be red and indurated. It takes a few months for the natural scar maturation to occur and for scars to fade. Quarter-sized lump on inside of thigh, surface is smooth, shiny, light purple. It's hard, goes quite deep under skin. Slightly tender. No drainage.
Cyst: This may be a sebaceous cyst if it is the only time you have had this. Many people can get multiple of these in the same area over the years. I would not recommend trying to squeeze it because it will make it worse. Apply warm compressses for 10 min twice a day. If very sore see your md for antibiotics that will improve the symptoms even though it is not a true infections. ...Read more
The real questions: Forgive my frankness. The only things on your mind right now should be, 'do I have cancer? If it is not diagnosed and it kills me, how will the people who love me be affected?' you're an adult. I can't promise you that you won't notice where you've had the surgery. I doubt anyone else will be aware of anything. A man who'd care (and i've never met such a man) isn't worth keeping. Now be brave. ...Read more
