Hernia Surgery (Definition)

There are a variety or several types of hernias, and many are repaired differently. A hernia is a weakness in the abdominal wall (such as inguinal, umbilical, incisional) or diaphragm (hiatal hernia). Surgery to repair the hernia can involve use of sutures, and possible use of mesh. Open or laparoscopic surgery can be a means to repair hernias, with laparoscopic ...Read more

I had an inguinal hernia surgery in 2010, feel pain at surgical side after ejaculating. Is there any way to find out if scar tissue is actual problem?

Not really: I'm sorry this is happening. Groin pain a known possible consequence of this surgery. Most surgeons will not operate on just pain -too much risk (and can make it worse). A neuroma is often the cause, or a nerve impinged by a suture inside. Most imaging will not help define anything. Hope it gets better.

Here are some. ..: What described may try the following steps to manage: detailed Hx, targeted physicals, off-label use of alpha-blockers, diagnostic / therapeutic nerve blocks, and finally, surgical exploration for excising "neuroma" & local nuerectomy under microscope. That is how I have visioned, developed, and applied with good results, but still requiring an adventuresome willing professional and coop. Patient.

I had an inguinal hernia surgery in 2010 (open repair).I feel pain at surgical side when I ejaculate. Is there any way to see if there is scar tissue?

PAIN after HERNIA: Surgery persists ~6-8% of patients most often related to scar tissue irritating nerves. It's common in younger pts ; in those with significant pain before surgery. Certain activities including ejaculation can cause/increase the discomfort. Treatment is usually conservative with pain management ; physical therapy. Surgery is limited to those with severe pain. Start with an exam by your surgeon.

I had an inguinal hernia surgery (open repair) in 2010.I feel pain at surgical when I ejaculate. How can find out if scar tissue tissue is the problem?

Surgery: This sounds as if scar has formed around the repair. The vas, blood vessels and nerves can be trapped in the scar tissue and cause pain. The only way to know for sure is to go in and take a look. This can fix it but it can also make it worse. Some times injections can help, but removing the scar is the way to go then hope that the scar doesn't recur. Talk to your surgeon.

I had an inguinal hernia surgery in 2010, feel pain at surgical side when I ejaculate. How can I find out if scar tissue is compressing spermatic cord?

PAIN post hernia: Called inquinodynia occurs in~6-8% of patients ; is more common in young male; those with significant pain prior to repair. It is often related to nerve irritation by surgical scar tissue. Certain physical activities can increase pain. Determining the cause of post herniorrhaphy pain should begin with a comprehensive evaluation and examination by a surgeon or hernia specialist.

After inguinal hernia surgery could there be scar tissue in scrotum?

After inguinal hernia surgery could there be scar tissue in scrotum?

Maybe: If the hernia was large & extended into the scrotum before the surgery, then scar can form temporarily. Or there can be temporary scrotal swelling after hernia surgery that could feel like scar tissue. See your surgeon for an exam.

Could a mass in between the lung and heart be scar tissue from a hernia surgery?

Could a mass in between the lung and heart be scar tissue from a hernia surgery?

See doctor: It is unlikely that the mass could have arisen from a hernia surgery. Hernias are near the surface of the body, while this sounds like it is deeper. It could be something serious, like a malignancy, so you might need a biopsy. See your doctor for a full evaluation.

I had an inguinal hernia surgery (open repair) before three years. I want to know is it possible for scar tissue not to be shown in the MRI scan?

I had an inguinal hernia surgery (open repair) before three years. I want to know is it possible for scar tissue not to be shown in the MRI scan?

Yes: Children usually heal well, and scar tissue can reduce over time. A childhood hernia repair is not a big procedure or incision, so the scar tissue may not be visible after a period of time.

I had an inguinal hernia surgery before 3 years. From a year I feel severe pain at surgical area whenever I ejaculate can scar tissue be the reason?

I had an inguinal hernia surgery before 3 years. From a year I feel severe pain at surgical area whenever I ejaculate can scar tissue be the reason?

Probably scar tissue: The testicle obtains its blood supply and drains the sperm thru the spermatic cord, that runs through the inguinal canal, which is mobilized as part of the hernia repair. The pain during ejaculation is likely due to some scar tissue around the spermatic cord as part of the hernia repair and is not likely due to hernia recurrence. If very symptomatic, reoperation may be necessary.

I am 26 male and had an inguinal hernia surgery (open repair) with mesh in 2010. Is there any possibility for scar tissue not to be shown in MRI scan?

I am 26 male and had an inguinal hernia surgery (open repair) with mesh in 2010. Is there any possibility for scar tissue not to be shown in MRI scan?

Yes: Mri typically would not show scar tissue, unless it is extensive. In this area, scar tissue and normal soft tissue would appear similar in an MRI scan. Consult your original surgeon for details if you are having problems with your operation.

I had an inguinal hernia surgery in 2010 (open repair)if I have scar tissue around spermatic cord. Will I feel pain all the time or just when ejaculate?

You may: Pain after any hernia operation is common though it usually resolves in a few months. Scarring of the cord or cremaster muscles is probably causing this. Repeating surgery usually doesn't solve this. Steroid injection treatments may help. Applying heat or a hot bath may help. With time, this usually becomes less of an issue. If you feel a mass or bulge that comes and goes, see the surgeon.

I had a left inguinal hernia surgery in 2010. I feel pain when I ejaculate a doctor told me that it might be a scar tissue. Do I need a re-operation?

I had a left inguinal hernia surgery in 2010. I feel pain when I ejaculate a doctor told me that it might be a scar tissue. Do I need a re-operation?

See answer: If have not done, would recommend see a urologist and get their opinion on cause of your ejaculation pain as scar tissue would be an uncommon cause of ejaculation-only related pain post-hernia repair. Most nerve entrapments accompanied by pain (s) unassociated with ejaculation. If you're correct, would reserve repeat surgery as a last resort. Most such pains improve with time. Nerve block an option.

Not enough info: There are too many variables to answer. Location of hernia, type of repair, detail of re-exploration, etc. It could be related to scar tissue, and may be a normal sensation.

I had an inguinal hernia surgery in 2010, I feel pain only when I ejaculate. A doc told me its due to scar tissues. Can steroid injections remove them?

Was mesh used?: Pain could be due to scarring alone or result of mesh being used from nerve or spermatic cord entrapment. Steroid injection is unlikely to harm so worth trying, you have very little to lose with large potential gain./ Alternatives are do nothing & live with it or surgical exploration to free nerve &/or spermatic cord. Good Luck

Can scar tissue from umbilical hernia surgery cause pelvic/groin pain from having gas? Can too much beer (8-9) 2wks post op tear internal sutures?

Unlikely but -: This is unlikely - you may do well to consult your surgeon. 8-9 beer a day is way too much under any circumstance and not helpful to healing be careful- listen to your body and lay off

I had hernia surgery 10 years ago. Now, I am experiencing occasional pain at the scar site. What might be the cause of this?

Recurrence hernia.: You had inguinal hernia surgery 10 years ago and now experience occasional pain at site. This could be a recurrence. 10 years ago you may have had open repair and the laxity of the abdominal wall may have led to a recurrence. It could be other things. See your surgeon and go from there. Risk factors would be smoking, it impairs healing. Weight gain, it puts stress on the repair. Etc.

Hernia Repair (Definition)

Hernias are common in the groin, belly button, upper-midline, or associated w/scars. Tissue (Definition)

The body is composed of tissue that are classically described as beiing derived from three basic embyonic layers known as the endoderm, mesoderm and ectoderm that then differentiate into the structures that compose the body such as skin, soft tissues, bone, muscle, organs, etc. Stem cells are not differentiated and have the potential to ...Read more
