You need medical: Attention. Winged scapula is usually caused by nerve injury, so I don't know how much it is related to your shoulder injury. ...Read more
Not necessarily: Typically the exercises that are focused on to strengthen the hip focus on abduction, and extension. These exercises work on the large muscles such as the gluteus. Adduction and flexion should also be part of any hip therapy regimen and are not necessarily bad unless there is a particular reason (ie patients with hip replacements should avoid adduction as may put them at risk for dislocation). ...Read more

Have hard lumps all along the scapular area that are painful for 10 yrs. Dr says their lymph n via u/s and unusual place to have them. Causes?
Questionable tumor: If the lumps are along medial margin near spine which is what protrudes when one bends forward they for the most part cant be lymph nodes. The latter are found toward the armpit where the major vessels are. U.S. cant dx lymph nodes and if hard one must consider possibility of tumor or tumors of nerve origin arising from muscles of the scapula. Should be evaluated for possible bx. ...Read more

Can scapular burisitis be related to tendernes on both sides of t-10/11/12 region and pain with arching back?
Not sure: Scapular bursitis is not a common problem and is usually does not occur on both sides at once. Pain is usually with shoulder motion, not back motion. Diagnosed with Scapular Dyskenisis, got through PT, but my shoulder pain never went away and is getting worse. What can I do to help this?
Scapular Dyskinesis: Can be caused or complicated by an internal injury to the shoulder (such as rotator cuff or labral tear or AC joint separation). While physical therapy is an integral part of treatment, there may also be an underlying shoulder injury which needs to be addressed. An MRI would be useful to see whether you have an internal injury causing your dyskinesis and increasing pain. ...Read more
Hi. If the nerves that run through the scapular notch are damaged, are they repairable (either surgically or healing on their own)? Thanks
Nerve damage?: Hello~ I don't know where the "scapular notch" is as its not an anatomically correct name. In general, a CRUSHED OR COMPRESSED NERVE can heal in about 12 weeks. A CUT nerve (neuronoptnesis) cannot be stitched, . joined and does not heal and there is permanent paralysis of the muscle group that nerve supplies. Thanks ...Read more

Emphysema: While no test is 100%, assume the test was administered in the 'right' way because 95% of the time, repeating it gives the same results. Hyperaeration (too much air in lungs) can be artifactual but the Radiologist (a good one, anyway) would note that by careful observation (lungs vs. Bones). The signs & findings point to obstructive lung disease (COPD/emphysema). TTYD or discuss on HealthTap Prime ...Read more

When u have a mri of the thoracic spine, does it go as far as the shoulder, scapular area or just the vertebrae?
Just the spine: The MRI is usually restricted to the spine and immediately surrounding tissue. Ordinarily it would not show the shoulder unless that was requested on the order. In addition, different MRI sequences are used for the shoulder. These different sequences show the tissues in different ways. So, in order to evaluate a shoulder, it really is necessary to get a dedicated shoulder MRI. ...Read more
