Varies: I would not hesitate to get a follow up appointment and specifically answer that question. Presumably if your plates and screws have been removed your fractures are healed. For now: Apply an ice pack, keep it elevated and stay off it. If it's just a simple sprain, you'll feel better tomorrow. If you don't, you need an x-ray, so bring your ankle to either a podiatrist or an orthopedist, both of whom will have x-rays in their office (better than an er), so you can get diagnosed and treated properly.
