Delayed bleeding: There was likely a small blood vessel that just started bleeding underneath the skin, causing the hematoma. It may have happened when the stitches were being removed or even something like washing your hair. Nothing incorrect done, just a thing. Your body will eventually reabsorb the hematoma; sometimes some will be left behind that can be uncomfortable, so you may prefer to have it evacuated ...Read more

Yes, it can: Hematoma is a collection of blood in tissues. This blood can track down under the force of gravity or pressure to the anatomic structures below, such as the face. What is the treatment for scalp hematoma?

Usually none: Most scalp hematomas will resolve without any surgery needed. The body will break the clot down as it does any bruise over time. Rarely if the hematoma is tense and expanding it can be drained by opening the skin and washing the area out. Those on blood thinners may have to stop them for a short time if there is an associated clot/bruise on the brain. ...Read more

My son have a scalp hematoma since saturday and the bump is not getting smaller yet, whe do you decide if it needs to be drained?

The body will eventually reabsorb the material & all will be fine. It is not worth the chance if infection or recurrent accumulation to drain these. ...Read more

My daughter's usg brain report says  "A scalp hematoma measuring 11.3 x 3.5 mms is seen over the left parietal  area."I am afraid. What should I do.

Puzzling question: A scalp hematoma means there is a collection of blood under the skin of the scalp. This usually reflects a broken blood vessel from trauma. It usually hurts, can persist for days or weeks, but has little if any importance. It is not by itself any sort of brain injury. It is not inside the skull. ...Read more

Son has scalp hematoma said dr today. What do I do if it doesn't go away in a couple of weeks?

You wait longer: If a kid develops a scalp hematoma it represents a pocket of blood in between the skull and deep skin layers that have no blood supply. Blood will eventually break down to its basic chemical fluid and protein makeup and be passively absorbed gradually through the deep skin layers. Transient calcium deposits can form at the site but eventually resolve. ...Read more

How long can swelling near a hematoma last from olecranin bursitis? Been over 30 days, no change. Ortho wants an emg done but I have no insurance.

EMG: An EMG assesses nerve problems. A hematoma and bursitis are not nerve problems. Therefore, an EMG would probably be of little benefit. If the swelling that you speak of is actually the olecranon bursitis, that type of swelling can last indefinitely. Speak to your physician about this to get further guidance about the treatment of the bursitis. You might also consider seeing a pm&r doc as well. ...Read more
