Hmm: If it looks like scabies I normally treat with Permethrin 5% as sometimes there are only 6-8 Mites in your entire body leading to the negative skin scraping. Consider sending us a picture or seeing a dermatologist face to face and reconsider just treating for scabies. Read more

Does saltwater kill scabies mites, when they aren't in the skin? For example if they are in a wetsuit?

YES: Mites do not "like" salt water and in fact salt water baths are used to treat scabies!!!! I would, however, note that wet suits should be CLEANED with antibacterial, antiseptic, agents if they are going to be "shared"...If you use a wet suit regularly you should own your own!! My opinion only!

I have a question about scabies. Regardless of the effect to me/my skin and what I "should" do, will hot/boiling water kill the mites at all?

I have a question about scabies. Regardless of the effect to me/my skin and what I "should" do, will hot/boiling water kill the mites at all?

Easier way than that: You may not have scabies. It would be prudent to see a doctor for a proper diagnosis. There are topical as well oral medications that are far safer than trying to scald yourself with boiling water. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. Read more

Scabies.: A dermatologist is typically adept at diagnosing skin issues on site. As such, given a certain clinical scenario along with the physical exam findings, the dermatologist is able to initiate treatment without sampling a lesion. That being said, if this was not a dermatologist who made the diagnosis, then it might be wise to seek a second consultation with a dermatologist. Read more

PCP said scabies. Permitherim 4x. No change. Went to derm. Did scraping. Derm said not scabies but urticaria. Got script for allergy pills. No help.

Stay with the derm: Call or see again your dermatologist, urticaria at times is hard to control, different medicines may be needed or extra doses of the allergy pills you were prescribed, but that need to be verified by the dermatologist, at times a biopsy may be needed or a blood work and other studies. Second or even a third opinion is your right, but first revisit your dermatologist, good luck Read more

Unlikely: Scabies mites do not survive more than 2-3 days away from human skin. Items such as bedding, clothing, and towels used by a person with scabies can be decontaminated by machine-washing in hot water and drying using the hot cycle or by dry-cleaning.
