How safe are DHT blocking products like propecia/finasteride/saw palmetto? Side efx like gynecomastia and libido loss... Are those common at all? Help.
Saw palmetto: Is an unregulated supplement that has bio-identical properties, but is not standardized. If you are concerned about male pattern baldness, try using minoxidil and finasteride. Side effects are uncommon but possible. Try them and monitor for side effects. You can stop if dissatisfied with results. Claims that effects are long lasting seem dubious. ...Read more

I developed Gynecomastia 2 weeks ago from taking Saw Palmetto after a period of 4 days. How long will it take for my Gynecomastia to fully disappear.
May do: Gynecomastia is a known side effect of saw palmetto. Wonder why someone as young as you is considering saw palmetto which is used for benign prostate enlargement causing urinary obstruction. You may need to consider breast reduction surgery if your enlargement is significant in spite of possible need for weight reduction/obesity treatment. ...Read more
I developed mild gynecomastia from taking Saw Palmetto during a period of 4 days to treat my hair loss. Can gynecomastia reverse on its own?
It'll go away: It'll probably reverse or you can see about outpatient surgery. Saw palmetto isn't going to help your hair loss nearly as much as real medical or surgical treatment. Or you can decide to embrace your masculinity and your genetics and work on fitness instead. 95% of a man's looks is his athleticism, regardless of where he has hair, and you'll feel and be healthier. Photo Guy isn't complaining. ...Read more
Okay: This won't hurt. In many observational studies, this was thought to help with urine blockage. However, in a very large randomized trial funded by the nih it was shown to be no better than placebo. Consider an alpha-blocker such as doxazosin or tamsulosin instead. These are prescriptions with minimal side effects. ...Read more
No: As it is unregulated by the fda men taking it for big prostates may find that the actual amount of the substance is quite variable from each manufacturer and from batch to batch. I just stopped flomax (tamsulosin) after 2 years. Is it a problem if I take super beta prostate and saw palmetto at the same time? Would this be dangerous?
Not much: For a long time it was believed that saw palmetto helped ease the urinary symptoms due to an enlarged prostate (bph). But the most recent data, which includes pooled data from many trials (cochrane review) shows that saw palmetto just doesn't do much good. If a man has obstructive urinary symptoms, he is probably better off taking tamsulosin (flomax) or rapaflo (silodosin). ...Read more
