Very infrequently: Salsalate is an infrequently used NSAID that is somewhat similar to Aspirin but has less GI risk and is not an anticoagulant as is aspirin. Abuse is not a term that generally would apply here. Why is it being taken in the first place? If you take too much you will develop warning signs such as ringing in the ears. Yes: Salsalate is an alternative to Aspirin generally used for treatment of arthritis. It is useful when a patient cannot take regular Aspirin due to gastrointestinal problems. Regular Aspirin can cause gastrointestinal bleeding in certain people especially those with a history of ulcers.
