I'm on 50mg of Pristiq and have been on it since 2009. Are there any high risks of taking this while pregnant?
Yes: Pristiq is category C in pregnancy, which means that most physicians would weigh the risks and benefits before prescribing. It also depends upon the specific trimester ; first trimester carries greatest risks for birth defects but third trimester carries the greatest risks for newborn withdrawl syndromes. Since you have been on it since 2009, it would be best to wean off before you get pregnant. ...Read more
Pristiq and pregnancy. On medication for 12 months. We want to start a family in 2013. Effects on falling pregnant? Harm baby? Breast feed?
Talk to doc, but: There is no data yet on Pristiq in pregnancy. However Pristiq is a metabolite of effexor, prospective data on 150 women exposed to venlafaxine (effexor) during the first trimester of pregnancy suggest no increase risk of major malformation compared to non-exposed controls. Not safe generally: T-htp is the precursor for serotonin in your body. Pristiq is a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. Symptoms include agitation, confusion, fever, unstable blood pressure, rapid heart rate, tremors, cramping, overactive reflexes, diarrhea, vomiting and flushing. ...Read more
Yes.. But: Combining the 2 medications at the dose you mention should be safe but not necessary. Both medications are related (zoloft is an ssri and Pristiq is an snri). They both work on serotonin but Pristiq also works on norepinephrine. Unless you are planning to eventually switch and this is part of that plan, it may be better to first maximize the dose of one. Zoloft can be safely increased to 200mg. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Is it safe to take bupropion sr (300 mg) daily and pristiq (50mg) daily together? Can this combo cause serotonin syndrome?
My babys 3months & breastfed. I've tried the safe meds but don't work for me for depression & anxiety. Can I use pristiq I've read no & yes w/monitoring?
Should not. : Pristiq is least safe because more of it can get into the breast milk than the other antidepressants. I would try all the other antidepressants first. If you really need pristiq, you should seriously consider stopping breastfeeding. If you decide to take Pristiq and still breastfeed, you have to understand that there are risks as your baby is getting some Pristiq which each feed. ...Read more
I take pristiq 50mg when I wake up in the morning. I take Xanax XR 2mg before bed each night. Is it safe to drink beer on these medicines?
Discuss with OB!!: You don't say how pregnant you are, but whether you should be continuing these meds should be among your first questions to your OB and you should be seeing someone immediately, assuming you want to continue with the pregnancy. We normally would not use Concerta or any stimulant during pregnancy and Pristiq is not one that we would keep someone on. Pregnancy is not the time to experiment but if .. ...Read more
