Is using Benadryl (diphenhydramine) better than reactine to stop rhinitis? Thanks.

Is using Benadryl (diphenhydramine) better than reactine to stop rhinitis? Thanks.

Both r antihistamine: Benadryl (diphenhydramine) (diphehydramine) is a 1st generation antihistamine, probably causes sedation, which might abate with continued usage, but has the problem of tolerance, (meaning u might need an extra dosage to have the same effect), reactine (ceterizine) is 2nd generation, mostly nonsedating and doesn't cause tolerance, at any rate you need to be evaluated by an allergist to better direct ur therapy. ...Read more

I'm looking for a natural antihistamine for seasonal allergies rather than using zyrtec (cetirizine)?

I'm looking for a natural antihistamine for seasonal allergies rather than using zyrtec (cetirizine)?

Natural treatments : Natural treatments are medications too. Usually not as well studied or characterized for benefit and safety as those approved by the fda. I don't know of any natural antihistamines per se but butterbur has been reported to have benefits. A very safe alternative to allergy medicine is buffered saline washes.
