Depends: ARe you sure the chronic cough is due to post nasal drip? It could be caused by asthma or reflux. Also you may not be using the Flonase properly, make sure it is pointed outward toward ear and use consistently on a daily basis. Claritin might not be strong enough antihistamine. See below: You have a cold. I recommend an over the counter decongestant either phenylephrine nose drops or spray or pseudephedrine tablets (the ones locked up behind the counter). Use them for only 3-4 days to avoid rebound phenomenon. You could also take tylenol (acetaminophen) for pain relief and throat lozenges if sore throat. Take Robitussin-DM for cough. Sounds: Like our old" friend" INFLUENZA....Take Tylenol or a NSAID for the fever/aches...drink lots of fluids...REST and if it goes into a third week have a hands on exam by your PCP (Primary Care Provider) WHO SHOULD ALSO KNOW what viruses are active in your community.

Benadryl (diphenhydramine) can reduce drainage but would not use it during day as it is sedating and affect mental performance. Honey and dextromethorphin can reduce the cough.
