Runny Nose And Clogged Ears
Many ways: The most common answer you will get from docs is "allergy meds". In addition, avoidance of the allergens is a powerful solution, but often difficult to achieve. Rinsing away those allergens from your nose can be hugely successful. Consider using a daily nasal rinse of saline. Like rinsing dust off your car, daily nasal saline rinses wash away allergens, virus, bacteria. Nice effect. Try it. ...Read more

Grand other, 87yo. 5'5" 149lbs. Chronic cold symptoms, 10yrs. Runny nose, clogged ears, dizziness, cough, hoarse throat. No allergies. Any ideas?
Chronic sinusitis: The symptoms above are consistent with chronic irritation of the nose and throat. This can be caused by chronic sinus infections which also connect to the ear and cause dizziness. A Cat scan of sinuses can help. A more unlikely but possible cause is reflux disease. (GERD) While not typical, gastric fluid coming up in the throat during sleep can cause the symptoms as well. An ENT surgeon can help. ...Read more
I've had a cough, runny nose & my ears are clogged for about 10 dys. There is flem, yet my throat gets super dry at times it tickles causing more cough?
Acute sinusitis?: Sounds like you may have an acute sinusitis. Given the 10 day time frame, it could still be viral. I would start with guaifenisin (brand name mucinex) twice daily, use some topical nasal spray (afrin) and flush your nose with saline solution as much as you can tolerate. If you start having fevers or the cough becomes productive, or if this continues for 2 more weeks I would consult your physician. ...Read more
Can a cold last for 2 weeks I have clogged ears runny nose cough I also had a flight and I am not very carefull I leave home after bath when 2 celsius?
After effects linger: It is possible to have a cold for 5-7 days, but to have lingering runny nose, postnasal drip, congestion of the nose, sinuses, and ears. If you are worsening or things suddenly worsen, " double sickening", then it may be a bacterial infection. You should consider seeing your doctor at this point ...Read more
Woke up with left ear clogged. No cold or runny nose. Took allergy pill but no relief. No pain in ear. Just feel pressure and clogged.?
Eustachian tube: Hello, your ear symptoms are due to a eustachian tube dysfunction. The lining in your nose continues into the eustachian tube. Any condition affecting your nose will in turn cause ear symptoms. I would recommend afrin nasal spray as directed for 5 days. An otc decongestant can be used as directed thereafter for 7-10 days. If the symptoms persist, then see your ent. ...Read more

Throat started hurting 2days ago ; ;clogged, runny nose, it hurts when I cough, and phlegm is yellow and sometimes chunky. Head hurts once a day.
Coughing: You have a bad cold. Mucus can flow backwards down your throat and irritate it and cause you to cough. If you cough hard enough it can cause a pressure wave to travel up to your head and give you a headache. Most colds caused by viruses. Best thing is probably chicken soup, Jewish "Penicillin". ...Read more

My ear feels clogged I do have some pain, then when I open and close my mouth everyone can hear the the crackling sound and it blowing my nose dose not help also I do not have water in it. Could it be an ear infection?
This: This could be eustachian tube disorder, but the fact that others can hear the crackling makes me think that another option could be your jaw joint--the temporo-mandibular joint (tmj). Disorders and pain in that area is often referred to the ears with multiple symptoms: pain, fullness, popping...The pain can radiate to the head and cause headaches, or down into the neck and throat areas. It is the most common cause of ear pain when the ear looks normal to a doctor. This can be evaluated by your primary care doctor or a dental surgeon. Most common treatment is NSAID medications and physical therapy--rarely surgery is needed. ...Read more

What is it? Sore throat and loss of voice two weeks ago, that cleared up and now deep cough with clogged ears and orange mucus in nose for a week.???
Hello.: Hello. If your ears are clogged, it could be due to congestion. Congestion could create pressure on the eustacian tubes which normally can allow for pressure to equalize (or fluid to drain) as they connect the inside of the ear to the throat. You can try an oral decongestant or a nasal spray like afrin to help open up the area. If you use afrin, don't use any more often that twice a day for up to 3 to 5 days at the very longest. Hope your ears feel more comfortable soon. ...Read more

Otoscope!: The easiest way to figure this one out is have someone look in your ear with an otoscope. It's most likely wax build up or fluid trapped behind your eardrum. If you're not in pain, it's not likely to be an infection. Hope this helps! ...Read more

Can Afrin and Flonase thickin the fluid in Eustachian Tube? I used both yesterday 2 sprays in each nostril. My left ear feels clogged today.
Not likely: Flonase does not reach optimum potency until used consistently for days. It is more likely that whatever causes one to use nose sprays in the first place results in inefficient Eustachian Tube drainage due to inflammation. Stay the course as advised by your physician. Make sure to review the warnings on these if using otc. ...Read more
When exercising: clogged ears, raised heart rate, hard eyes, pulsating neck and head, red skin blotches on face, feels like walking on air why?
? physiologic: During exercise the heart rate, blood pressure, and cardiac output increase and can cause the ears to seem to be "stopped up" and cause the pulsations in the neck. Blood flow increases to the skin to help eliminate heat that the body is generating (flushed face). I suspect you may be hyperventilating to some degree and that causes numbness and tingling around the face, arms and legs. ...Read more

A few days ago I started having a runny nose and now my ears hurt every time I yawn or cough. What is this?
Ear Pain: Greetings. The ear pain you are describing makes me think about a Eustachian Tube Dysfunction or possibly even Otitis Media. It sounds like you may have allergies that commonly precede Otitis Media or ETD. An antihistamine like Claritin, Zyrtec or Allegra may help. You can add Nasacort (triamcinolone) or Flonase too. All these medications are available over the counter. If it persists, see your ENT Doctor. ...Read more

Stuffy ears that won't pop with runny nose & cough? For about 1-2wks now. Not extreme pain (0-2). Affects 1 ear then goes over to the next. Help!?
Runny nose: Your runny nose is causing some swelling in the back of your nose, near the opening of the eustachian tube, the tube that connects your nose and your ears. Usually related to cold or upper respiratory infection or even sinus infection. Try some nasal saline irrigation to clear out the mucous. Can also try an antihistamine, if allergies. If bacterial infection, you probably need to see your doc. ...Read more
