Was just at a starbucks and set next to a girl with a lot fresh cuts running up her arm. Do you suggest saying anything? If so, what?

No: No need to say anything unless you feel as though she is trying to talk to you. You dont know the circumstances surrounding the cuts and generally she likely has her support system who will try to get her to get help if she needs it or she will seek it on her own. You could end up saying something to worsen her symptoms if it is in fact a mental health issue. ...Read more

My 2 year old girl started running a fever of 101 last night. Woke up around 4am with 103 temp. Woke up around 8 and its gone. What could cause this?

Lots of possibilits: There are a variety of viral illnesses that go through both quiet fever free phases and fever generating phases. Most will go through cycles of fever on & off for several days before self healing.I would expect more. As long as the kid is taking fluids well and playing some you can probably monitor the situation at home. If refusing fluids or fussy all the time i would have her looked at. ...Read more

My 5 yr old girl has had a dry cough for 2 yrs. It only comes when she is active (running, swiming, playing)...Her doctors say not to worry, ideas?

Be concerned!: Your child may have exercise induced asthma. This can be life threatening. There is testing to see if this is the case or if other things are causing her cough. Does she wheeze? Is she on asthma medications? Get seen by a reputable pcp, pediatrician, pediatric pulmonologist or at a children's hospital. ...Read more

My 7 year old girl had nose bleed 2 weeks ago and yesterday night she had it again. She has slight running nose few days ago. Should I be worry?

Humidity : Not sure where u live. Dry weather is the most common cause of bleeding nose apart from nose picking which can lead to bleeding. If this is true, use a humidifier at night in her bedroom. I'm 17, a girl and my resting heart rate is 107bpm. After running I can't breathe. I got a inhaler but it doesn't seem to help. Could I be tachycardic?

Yes: The strict definition of tachycardia is a heart rate greater than 100bpm. That being said it's important to know how you typically feel during exercise and at rest. Do you feel chest pains, palpitations? Are you generally anxious? I recommend you see your doctor and he/she will likely check an EKG to evaluate for any abnormalities (ie arrhythmias), also a test of your thyroid should be done. ...Read more

Hi all, my 14 months old girl is running a high fever, she is putting her finger in her mouth all the day, could this be related to molar teething?

Pain: A high fever is not teething. The fact that she is putting her hand in her mouth constantly could signify she has pain maybe not related to the teething. I would make sure you control the fever, make sure she is well hydrated and take her in to see her doc! ...Read more

My 6-month-old girl caught flu/cold since Friday. She has running nose and cough. She has mucus in her nose and it's understandable. The part worries me is that I can hear mucus when she breathes. Shall I be concerned about it?

Depends: Infants have narrow nasal passages compared to adults, and breathing often sounds noisy when there is a cold. As long as your baby is able to take bottles or nurse ok, is normally interactive, and chest movement seems normal with breathing, she should be fine. She may be more comfortable in a seated or somewhat upright position. ...Read more
