Cold, URI: Doesn't look like the flu, symptoms are common theses days, with too many viruses spreading. Rest, fluids, saline nasal washes, and OTC cold medicines would help, read the labels carefully, good luck

Thoughts: Typically this is viral till proven otherwise- and supportive care with fluids, rest and OTC meds. Talk to your doctor to be sure.

Viral infxn/roseola: Roseola is a common pediatric viral illness most commonly cause just fever, at times quite high to 104-105, but no other symptoms. Child can be cranky/tired at high tempt., but once fever is controlled, he/she is ok. Fever mat last for 3-5 days, then tiny, pinkish rash appears and fever resolves. Usually of no consequences. So, tylenol/motrin as needed for fever. If worsen, consult doc. Good luck.

By now: A child of that age should be hospitalized for evaluation of hidden infections, management of fever and search for other more serious sources.

I've been running fevers between 99.5° & 102.8° on and off for over a month now. No explanation, no other symptoms. Normal temp is 96.8°-97.2°?

See MD ASAP: For a temperature that high -- expecially 102 or higher -- you've gone far too long already without medical care. There are too many possible causes to even guess; the source may be suspected depending on other symptoms. In any case, it could be serious. See your doctor this week for sure. Good luck!

Hard to say: Sounds like you both have something similar. It could be a cold or something else. What meds either of you took is irrelevant. Most of them do nothing with these illnesses but give you something to do.

Fever: Push fluids, give antipyretics such as Ibuprofen or tylenol (acetaminophen). Place in a warm tub for 30 minutes to help bring the temp. And observe. She may incubating roseola where kids run a fever for three days and then the fever is normal but the child breaks out in red viral rash.

I have been running a fever up to 100.9 every 2 weeks for 6 weeks. It correlates with my ovulation and menstration. I also have flu symptoms. Normal?

Nope!: Be sure you are using a glass thermometer, and follow the instructions exactly. Keep a temperature chart, take it twice a day, morning and night. See a doc tout suite! Within a week. If your fevers increase in frequency, or exceed 102, you have severe pain, shortness of breath, vomiting, blurry vision, or dizziness, go to an ER.

5 year old son running fever (38 -39.8) for last 12 hrs. No other symptom. Giving him panadol (acetaminophen) every 6hrs. Temp hasn't gone to normal still.?

Don't worry: Fever is a normal part of your son's immune response. As long as he is eating, drinking and looking good do not worry. Give it a little more time. On the other hand, if he develops symptoms have him see his doctor.

Fever/Unknown Origin: 48 year old lady with Fever of Unknown Origin for 3-4 months. Have you reached menopause yet? Menopause is a cause of fever of unknown origin in a woman your age. Do you have chills? Any weight loss? Sick contacts? Bites? travel? sexual history? You should get a full exam to determine possible sources. Some causes are malignancy, abscess, tuberculosis, malaria, drug wdrawl, underlying med problem

My son is 3 1/2 all of sudden he is complaining that he has a headache and now he has a fever 100.5 no coughing, running nose or other symptoms what can this be and what's the best way to treat it?

Headache: A headache can be the precursor for a viral syndrome or other illness that is coming with fever. I would let it run its course and see what presents. Give him some ibuprofen for the headache and low grade fever for now.

The past few evenings I've been getting flu like symptoms: body aches, lethargic, feeling like I'm running a fever but not having one. When I wake up?

Flu vs Flu-like: Hi, Thank you for your question. You may have the flu or a flu-like illness. If after 5 days these symptoms are not improving then you should be examined. Hope that helps. Contact me if you have any other questions :-) Dr. M

I am having flu like symptoms and what looks like a bite on my leg. I am having muscle and joint pains and been running a fever. Can a bite cause this?

I am having flu like symptoms and what looks like a bite on my leg. I am having muscle and joint pains and been running a fever. Can a bite cause this?

IT depends but...: If it's a tick bite and you have recently been in the woods (or backyard North Carolina) then it would explain your symptoms... of Lyme's disease or Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. Or it could all be a flu virus and incidental bite mark from a flea. Please get yourself checked out by healthcare provider.

My feet have been cold/sweaty, very mild cold symptoms, running a fever of around 99 but it's only high at night and pain in the joints n my legs?

My feet have been cold/sweaty, very mild cold symptoms, running a fever of around 99 but it's only high at night and pain in the joints n my legs?

Vague: To answer this many questions need to be asked. Your age, any other medical conditions, medications, environmental exposure. Cyclical temperature elevation can be viral or hormonal. Joint pain can mean infectious. How long has you been expericing this?

Possible allergies: Clear runny nose and cough are very common symptoms of allergies. If there is associated sneezing, itchy nose, itchy/watery eyes, then consider seeing an allergist for confirmation and treatment. Cough is also a common symptom of asthma. Asthma and allergies frequently coexist.
