Likely roseola: Roseola is a common viral illness of childhood..Often causes high fever with not much else, usually for 3-5 days, then the rash appears and fever disappears. The rash is typically pinkish tiny dots underneath the skin, usually not bothersome to the child. If it is not bothering him, let it be. It will go away in dew days. Maybe a virus: There are Pediatric illnesses that start off with a fever and when the fever disappears a rash appears, like roseola. Roseola is usually not itching though. Roseola: This sounds like a classic description of roseola. It is a viral childhood disease that usually peaks in incidence in the summer months, but can happen any time of year. Pretty much it's as you describe. A few days of fever, then fever breaks and rash appears. Rash resolves within a week. Once rash appears, child no longer contagious.
