Rotator Cuff (Overview)

The rotator cuff is a group of four muscles that wrap around the ball of the ball and socket joint f the shoulder. The cuff muscles initiate the movements of internal and external rotation as well as lifting your arm from your side (abduction).

Get examined!: At age 55 your most common cause for this pain would still be 'impingement' ( or bursitis). Labral tears causing this pain are less likely unless associated with the biceps 'anchor'( SLAP) lesions -- but less likely in isolation in your age group.Osteoarthritis can cause pain in this distribution .
