Swelling reduction : Swelling is to be expected. It's unfortunate, but not uncommon. Application of ice ( 15 minutes on, 15 minutes off ) for 72 hours is a reasonable way to treat the symptom. After 24 hours, NSAID is ideal. ...Read more

Possible infection: The tooth in question needs to be reevaluated. You did not say if the root canal therapy is in progress or if it was completed and ho long ago. Either way your dentist or an endodontist needs to evaluated it for additional treatment. ...Read more

Not usually : A week is a little bit too long in my opinion., I guess the better question would be was it swollen prior to your root canal? Root canals remove the inflamed or infected nerve, artery and vein in the tooth. Afterwards it is hermetically sealed by the filling material which ensures a good deal and prevents bacteria from circulating to and from the tooth through the passages to the tooth. ...Read more
