My wisdom teeth are coming out and my mouth is sore and swollen. What are some ways to alleviate the symptoms and what can I do?

Tips for pain: Apply an ice pack to the side of your face for twenty minutes. If no relief, try moist heat. Take an over the counter pain medicine such as ibuprophen or tylenol. Drink cold drinks or slushees. Try spraying sore throat spray on the tender tissue. If no relief in two days, see your denitst as you may need to have these teeth extracted. ...Read more

DUH : You don't have to be a mental giant to come up with the same conclusions you did. Carry this a bit further, are you getting over anything? If not then the logic would be that you are coming down with something. ...Read more

Needs to be seen: These types of situations require a personal visual examination and evaluation. We can't know what you have and whether or not it's serious without seeing you. Without : Without more information and a clinical examination it is impossible to diagnose the problem. Recommend the following: 1. Stop mouthwash and substitute salt water (1tsp per 8oz of water) 2. Evaluation by and oral and maxillofacial surgeon. 3. Possible biopsy of area. ...Read more

Agreed, : Agreed, discontinue the mouthwash. Do you recall of burning the roof of your mouth with something like pizza? Do you smoke? In general any sores that do not resolve in about 10 days warrant seeing a professional to see what is going on. I am not sure if the mouthwash is making it worse or if something else is going on. ...Read more

I was around someone that has atypical measles. I have a sore throat, the roof of my mouth is sore, and a sore by hinge of jaw. Should I worry?

Get checked out: Some of your symptoms are common to upper respiratory viral illnesses, and I am unclear about the "sore," whether this is on the skin or in the deeper tissue. Either way, with the increase in measles outbreaks, a positive exposure, and some associated symptoms, it is advisable that you see your doc to look into this further. Take care of yourself! Good luck! ...Read more
