A doctor prescribed my 2 year old a half tsp of rondec dm syrup every 4 to 6 hours as needed is this a safe dose?
Cough medicine: Cough/cold medications do not help relieve the symptoms they are meant to take care of. In short, they are useless for children below 6 years old. In addition, the child is exposed to bad side-effects from them like drowsiness, irritability, hyperactivity. I gave my 8 yr old his zyrtec (cetirizine) this morning he takes 2 teaspoons. & bc he's sick I have him a teaspoon of ceron-dm for his cough. I read that it has an antihistamine in it too. I obviously won't give him more today but is that ok?
Should be: Antihistamines can make a person drowsy as a side-effect. The dose of zyrtec (cetirizine) for age is appropriate for your child. Adding the ceron-dm may just make him drowsy. Just because he is doesn't mean that "some is good, more is better"when giving medications. My son is 11 years old and suffers severely from seasonal allergies. Due to upcoming test no antihistamines can be given. Can he have Robitussin DM?
Check with allergist: I don't think that's a problem, but I would ask the allergist what things are allowable for symptom relief in the meantime if this is an important test that you want done right ...Read more
