Rocephin And Decadron Injection
Received a rocephin/decadron injection at 2pm for an ear and sinus infection. Now lightheaded, nauseated, palpitations, and numbness around mouth when?
Your ear and sinus: Infection could be worsening, or you could be developing a hypersensitivity (read: allergic) reaction occurring against one of those agents or whatever oral antibiotics you are put on. Or you could be hyperventilating and panic attack. There are many possibilities, and you would need to see a healthcare provider for proper exam and diagnosis. Thanks for trusting in HealthTap. ...Read more

Bad Low respiratory infection. On iv rocephin and decadron. Having bad ear aches and pressure both ears. Is this related? What could cause this?
Mgt: You may have an ear infection but the illness may be viral as well. The antibiotic will treat bacterial illness. The decadron will decrease inflammation in the lungs related to your asthma and infection. A virtual consult may be arranged and you will be able to upload information to your HT EMR. ...Read more

Received injection of rocephin (ceftriaxone) and prescribed antibiotics. Should I wait until next day to begin antibiotics?
Follow instructions: Follow the instructions of the doctor who prescribed the injection and oral antibiotics. If one does not recall the instructions, one generally can go ahead and start the oral antibiotics (instead of waiting until the next day). This usually works fine, because the level of oral antibiotics in the body will be rising as the level of injected antibiotics is going away. ...Read more
I had a single Decadron (dexamethasone) injection 24 hours ago. Common side effect is a hot or red face. How long is this supposed to last?

Can somebody with knowledge of healthcare please tell me how to do a rocephin (ceftriaxone) injection?
Could allergy testing be done 4 days after being given a 10mg injection of decadron (dexamethasone)?
Not accurately.: Decadron (dexamethasone) is a pawerful anti-inflammatory steroid, which has a half-life of about 36 hours, which means on day 4, you have the equivalent of 2 mg of Decadron (dexamethasone) in your body, which is enough to decrease skin testing. Serum testing is also innaccurate at this point, will need to wait another 2 weeks for skin testing, up to 6 weeks for blood testing. ...Read more

Is 1 injection of rocephin (ceftriaxone) enough for an infection of my finger from a clean glass cut?
How long does an injection of Rocephin (antibiotic) last? 5 day course of omnicef and one injection of Rocephin. Is that enough to treat strep A?
Sounds ok: A Rocephin (cefriaxone) dose lasts one day (24 hours). Omnicef 300mg take every 12 hours for 5 to 10 days is one of the recommended dosing strategies for treatment of strep throat. Thus, getting 1 dose of Rocephin plus 5 days of twice-a-day Omnicef should be enough to treat strep throat. A patient can get rechecked if not sure if he got cured of his strep. ...Read more
8month old son got 3 rocephin (ceftriaxone) injections 2 days post last rocephin (ceftriaxone) and ears red inside and he is pulling at them again. Do I take him in or wait?
Depends..: I assume the injections were for an ear infection to begin with? Is it the outer canal that you see that's red or do you have skills/tools to see the ear drum? I think if he has a fever in addition to pulling the ear and/or more/new symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea he needs to be seen sooner rather than later. Were these both things he was doing before the Rocephin (ceftriaxone)? May need other class antibiotic... ...Read more
Not a diabetic, but blood sugar had been from 129 -218 since receiving double strength Decadron (dexamethasone) IM injection and 60mg Prednisone once daily for 2days.
Started singulair (montelukast) yesterday. Also got an injection of 10 mg of Decadron due to sinus issues. Today I'm having intermittent palpitations. Is this more likely to be from steroid injection or singulair (montelukast)!
This is a side effect of steroid injections. Also may include things like flushing, nausea, etc.
To be very fair, singulair (montelukast) can also cause difficulty breathing and heart palpitations. But, these are listed as severe, rare side effects, while the palpitations from steroid injections are much more common. Good luck! ...Read more
I had Decadron (dexamethasone) bout 15 hours ago by injection in my arm. Today I have a slight headache and a bit dizzy. Also my calf is stillsore. Not sure if it worked?
? treatment: I don't understand why Decadron (dexamethasone) is used for calf pain. It appears that you are suffering from rare side effects of high-dose cortisone. You should call your doctor and report these side effects. Perhaps you should consult an orthopedic doctor specialized in pain management to manage your pain. ...Read more

I got a Decadron (dexamethasone) injection yesterday at my Doctor's office. Will it make me hurt all over? It's like all my joints are hurting and aching really bad!
No: This is not a normal reaction to Decadron (dexamethasone). It is a possible side effect from any steroid injection. It will normally go away in 24-48 hours. If it does not improve you will need to see your doctor. ...Read more

Is it normal for my throat to hurt worse after a rocephin (ceftriaxone) injection? I have strep throat and im feeling more painful than I was before
Strep effects: When you start treating strep or any other infection you are playing a catch up game with the germ. The tissue injury/pain due to the infection has a head start and does not begin to respond to treatment until the antibiotic has achieved high enough blood/tissue levels to kill the germ. It is not unusual for strep throats to become more intense before responding. It's not the shot, it's the germ. ...Read more
I had a shaking reaction to rocephin (ceftriaxone) injection at one time. The doctor prescribed me omnicef for a sinus infection. Should I have any issues?

My daughter has been on three antibiotics for an ear infection and it still hasn't gone away. Amoxicilin (10 days), drops (10days), rocephin (1 injection)?
Protocol: We as pediatricians generally follow protocols recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics which outlines a series of medications in a particular order felt to best eliminate chronic or recurrent ear infections. One problem with using multiple facilities for your care is that the lack of communication makes it difficult to follow this protocol. Stick with one doctor who is familiar with it ...Read more

Does one dexamethasone sodium phosphate injection cause weight gain or water retention, please answer?
Depends.: It depends how severe your reaction is and who the prescribing practitioner is. There is about a 10% cross reactivity with cephalosporins (Rocephin (ceftriaxone)) and penicillin based drugs. Usually if the reaction is minor, I will prescribe a cephalosporin like Rocephin (ceftriaxone). However, if the reaction to the penicillin based med is severe like shortness of breath, swelling or anaphylaxis I may avoid them completely. ...Read more
Simple...: Stop or reduce the dose of decadron (dexamethasone). unfortunately a lot of times that is not feasible. If your doctor feels you need to continue the current dose of Decadron (dexamethasone) then you can discuss other medications which are sometimes helpful in controlling hiccups (chlorpromazine, baclofen, etc). these medications are only a temporary measure until you can come off the decadron (dexamethasone). ...Read more

Course is 3-5 days.: It of course also depends on the severity of the infection. If one is being given IV Rocephin, (ceftriaxone) the patient probably has more severe infection. One should be feeling better with decreasing fever or improving WBC in 24-48 hours. A typical course is 3 to 5 days but if kidney infection (pyelonephritis) is involved, treatment can be 10-14 days. ...Read more
UTI: Rocephin (ceftriaxone) - Ceftriaxone - is a parenteral antibiotic, only can be given IV or IM. Most simple UTIs need only an oral antibiotic, and 3 days is often enough. Usually, there would be no indication for a parenteral antibiotic unless you have a complicated and/or resistant infection. In that case, you may need a longer course of treatment, too. ...Read more

More Rx needed?: A single shot of ceftriaxone (Rocephin) would rarely be the only treatment for an abscess; and usually an abscess also requires minor surgery to drain it. Usually additional antibiotic (s) also are given. If these weren't done, discuss with the doctor treating you. Even with all these treatments, it usually takes 1-2 weeks for healing, although it should stop getting worse right away. ...Read more
