I am 33 weeks pregnant. Is it safe to take Robitussin-DM max? I ave a runny nose and cough/congestion. When I cough the right side of my torso hurts.

No: Robitussin dm (guaifenesin and dextromethorphan) contains alcohol, which while it is not in a large amount, can be significant if you are taking even recommended doses every 4 hours or so. There is no amount of alcohol considered safe in pregnancy, so I would ask your pharmacist for an alcohol-free cough medication safe in pregnancy. The other stuff in it are dextromethorphan and antihistamines. Your OB is your first/best advisor. ...Read more

Many meds: At your age (or anyone else for that matter) taking five medicines and wanting another one is not smart unless your doctor has told what medical problems you have.
Having said that, if your doctor did prescribe those meds, over time the meds should be reduced.
Please let me know what develops. ...Read more

What are the chances of developing side effects from Mucinex (guaifenesin) fast max severe congestion and cough?

Side effects: There are side effects with almost every medication you take-over the counter and prescription. Difficult to predict who will experience them and to what extent. I've taken 3 doses of mucinex (guaifenesin) sinus max severe congestion relief today I'm over due for my next dose. Can I take Claritin -D instead now?

Yes: A good idea for self-medicating cold/sinus symptoms is to list your symptoms and present the list to the pharmacist who can guide you through the litany of options. If self-medication fails to improve symptoms or they worsen, best to consult a physician. That said, if you are otherwise healthy (and have no serious heart or blood pressure related condition) can now take the claritin-D. ...Read more

Can I take clariten d and Mucinex (guaifenesin) cold and congestion together for the best results?

Can I take clariten d and Mucinex (guaifenesin) cold and congestion together for the best results?

Yes: I don't think the Claritin will help much but the "d" will shrink the nasal linings and improve airway. Make sure the Mucinex (guaifenesin) doesn't contain decongestant if you are taking Claritin d. Mucinex (guaifenesin) helps to thin secretions but works better when hydrated. Consider nasal saline rinses a few times daily, humidifier, and 3-4 days of afrin. ...Read more

Will guaifenesin help with nose congestion 400mg?
