What's your question: If you are concerned about interactions, there are no significant ones when taking Equate and Robtussin together. In future you need to cross check with a pharmacist or doctor before combining medicines as there can be significant interactions. ...Read more

I take 50mg of trazadone/day. I'm also dealing w/seasonal allergies. What can I safely take? Robitussin? Benadryl (diphenhydramine)? Everything carries warnings.

Nasal steroid spray: Nasal steroid sprays are the most effective treatment for seasonal allergies. In addition, there would be no drug interaction with other medications including trazadone. ...Read more

My son is 11 years old and suffers severely from seasonal allergies. Due to upcoming test no antihistamines can be given. Can he have Robitussin DM?

Check with allergist: I don't think that's a problem, but I would ask the allergist what things are allowable for symptom relief in the meantime if this is an important test that you want done right ...Read more

My 8 yr old takes loratadine syrup everyday for allergies, but her sinuses are very congested, is it ok to give her children's Mucinex (guaifenesin) with it?

Ok but: It is ok to give Mucinex (guaifenesin) but unless it's Mucinex (guaifenesin) d it would not do anything to decongest your child's "sinuses". Consult your doctor for a rx nasal spray or allergist to find out what your child may be allergic to. ...Read more

Is Mucinex (guaifenesin) 3600 mg safe to take for sinus and allergy problems?

Mucinex (guaifenesin): The highest dose for Mucinex (guaifenesin) in a day should be 2400mg, otherwise you may start developing nausea and diarrhea. Why does mucinex (guaifenesin) dm seem to be tremendously helping my acid reflux and allergies its clearing up mucus and I know its reflux from food I eat?

Why does mucinex (guaifenesin) dm seem to be tremendously helping my acid reflux and allergies its clearing up mucus and I know its reflux from food I eat?

New discovery?: I guess you have made a new discovery on treating acid reflux. I can only guesis that the mucinex (guaifenesin) has left a coating floating above your stomach content thereby preventing acid and food from coming back- there is no scientific proof. It appears that you might have considered your "post-nasal" drips to be from allergy when it is from reflux. ...Read more

Yes. Only if..: If you got a prescription for this then by all means take the antibiotic. The other meds can help to alleviate your symptoms. Went to dr on mon due congestion. Diagnosis allergies due to cedar. Told to take Mucinex (guaifenesin) sinus & claritin. Yesterday afternoon lost voice & green phlegm?

Need more: You need to get a nasal steroid +/- a nasal antihistamine plus some allergy eye drops. Although green mucus does not always indicate the presence of an infection, it may be worthwhile for you to see your doctor to rule out a sinus infection. If your symptoms are that severe from cedar, you may consider an allergy work-up as well to prepare for the next season. Good luck. ...Read more

I have allergies all year and am prone to sinus infections. Is it bad for me to take routine mucus relief medicine? Specifically Mucinex (guaifenesin) dm

It may not help.: If you're already using antihistamines like zyrtec daily and not getting enough relief, please see your doctor. There are other medicines, like intranasal steroids and singulair, (montelukast) that can be added to get your allergies under control, which will cut down on sinusitis. Also, make sure you, your home and car stay smoke-free, and talk with your doctor about how to 'allergy-proof' your home. ...Read more

My ent thinks mucus is blocking my parotid duct. He got me on mucinex (guaifenesin) but says I got no mass which is good can allergies be that bad? Told him dry mou

Zyrtec (cetirizine)?: It could be a negative side effect of the antihistamine (although second generation meds such as Zyrtec are far less drying than first generation meds). Mucinex (guaifenesin) unlikely to improve symptoms. Recommend seeing an Allergist/Immunologist to ensure your medication regimen is optimized. If the parotid gland is blocked, my first suggestion is to eat something sour (lemon wedge) and see if that helps. ...Read more

What works better for running nose, allergies? Allegra, Claritin, Zytrec, or Mucinex (guaifenesin)? Debating on which one to get. Fast and 24 hr relief is what am looking for.

What works better for running nose, allergies? Allegra, Claritin, Zytrec, or Mucinex (guaifenesin)? Debating on which one to get. Fast and 24 hr relief is what am looking for.

Allergy: True allergy should be treated with an antiallergy medication such as loratadine, fexofenadine or cetirizine. They are generally considered equivalent and you should use the one that works best for you. Mucinex (guaifenesin) is an expectorant and should not do much for allergy. ...Read more

Tickle in throat and cough not very productive. No other symptoms. Treat for allergies with Zyrtec or just guaifenesin for cough? Meds approved by ob

Chest cold/allergy?: Either or both are OK, but if the cough is not productive of yellow or green mucus, you are probably fine just using Zyrtec. It is always best to minimize pharmacologic medications during pregnancy, but getting proper rest is also important, so use these with some discretion. ...Read more

Cough, chest/nose congestion, tired, blocked ears over a week. Taking zyrtec, mucinex, (guaifenesin) advil. Is it cold, allergies, something else?

Non specific: Not sure what the question really is, but if you are talking about upper respiratory tract or head cold symptoms due to infection versus if they are do to allergies, allergic symptoms tend to occur with exposure to kn own or suspected triggers, would not have fever, or sore throat, infections would be more likely to have fever, sore throat, no clear allergic exposure etc. ...Read more

I gave my 4 year old 2.5mL children’s Zyrtec 1 hour ago. Can I give him 4mL (not children’s) Robitussin severe multi-symptom cough cold+flu?

Mgt: I would not recommend an over the counter cough medication at this age. If there is nasal congestion, a nasal saline rinse for children may help to reduce symptoms. Zyrtec should be used for an allergic reaction. If he is sick with a cold only, then the Zyrtec is not used. ...Read more

What is the difference between adult's and children's regular Robitussin (guaifenesin) syrup?

Strength: Children's products that are patterned after adult ones usually have less, often about half, of the amount of drug in a given volume. Can I give my son mortin after give him robitussin (guaifenesin)?

Perhaps: If giving your son plain Robitussin with plain motrin, then this is probably acceptable. However, since more companies are developing drug combinations please read the ingredients list carefully. Motrin is identified as "ibuprofen"--which is the same as advil and very similar to aleve (naproxen). The best answer is to ask your local pharmacist if any of your son's drugs used together pose a problem. ...Read more
