Robitussin Ac V Medication
I got pneumonia and doctor prescribed me robitussin ac but not working much. Is it ok if I switched to Robitussin Dm (guaifenesin and dextromethorphan). What is the difference in dm n a?
DM has: Dextromethorphan which is a cough suppressant. AC just means there is codeine included, a narcotic suppressant. Pneumonia needs to be treated with antibiotics and expectorant, along with anti-inflammatory medicines. You can take the DM but it is unlikely to be more effective than with codeine. You can try a formulation with Hydrocodone like Tussionex or TussiCaps. ...Read more

Robitussin (guaifenesin) peak has a mild stimulant in it. As long as your thyroid levels are normal, this should not be a problem, but if your thyroid levels are high, it could potentially cause more heart racing symptoms. ...Read more

Time for a diagnosis: 90% of all cases of bronchitis are viral and don't require this much medication for relief. The symptoms can take a while to resolve especially if there are underlying conditions. With continued symptoms, it would be worth a "re-look" to make sure something is not being overlooked. Some possibilities are pertussis, bacterial infection not covered by azithromycin. Think sputum culture ; x-ray. ...Read more

Doesn't help if TTC: There is no evidence that Robitussin (guaifenesin) helps you to conceive or that it helps to improve cervical mucus. It's generally safe to take Robitussin (guaifenesin) for coughs and colds when trying to conceive or when you're pregnant. It's probably not very effective as a cough and cold medicine either. If you're 44 and trying to conceive see a fertility specialist (rei) md for help. ...Read more
