Normal phenomenon: Virchow-robin spaces are a phenomenon we see on mri's. They are merely the spaces we can see around blood vessels. Occasionally, a radiologist will describe 'enlarged' vr spaces. This is a normal finding...The spaces are just a little bigger than usual. ...Read more
Usually normal: The virchow robin space is a perivascular space in the brain that surrounds the perforating arteries. It is believed to act as a buffer and reservoir of the extracelluar space for the neurons. These are normal findings that are best seen on the MRI scans of the brain. However, more recent studies suggest that these become prominent in neurodegenerative diseases where there is loss of neurons. ...Read more

Honestly : Honestly the only way to know if there was a mistake is to call or present to the pharmacy that gave you the medication. Please know that the medication could very well be the same, different pharmaceutical companies may manufacture the same drug , however there may be changes in color and size, especially if it is the generic form. Also if it is generic, there may be different preservatives or additives used which could be causing you to feel "strange" you can request to have the original pill given to you due to adverse side effects. Take care. ...Read more
Hello! I'm Robin, I have a question. Since my daughter was 4 (she's now 11) on occasion when she gets in the bath she complains of her feet burning.
Interesting report: Burning and tingling are caused by abnormal stimulation of nerve endings, and if constant, can signal nerve damage, and there are multiple causes. Short term symptoms are commonly seen after recirculation after brief period without, such as " leg falling asleep after sitting on a leg, etc." This may just be the sensation of cool feet encountering warm water, or the water may be truly too hot! ...Read more
Dr. robin salley, od - today a boxer came for ocular exam (fight in las vegas one week) dilated fundus exam = retinal folds. should he box ?
No: Hi, Robin. Since retinal folds are associated with significant ocular, orbital and systemic pathology, I would tell the boxer to have a complete physical exam with blood work for inflammatory disease and orbital/cerebral imaging. If he goes on to fight without further workup and bleeds into his head from trauma to a brain tumor, there are going to be many unhappy players Best wishes! Gary ...Read more
7mm ovoid lesion fluid density shown within posterior inferior aspect of right basal ganglia small vessel coursing through it incidental virchow robin?
Difficult to tell: without actually looking at the scan. Virchow Robin spaces are found normally and accompany blood vessels as they penetrate the brain. They contain cerebrospinal fluid and if they expand they can look quite pathological however it would be difficult to tell for sure without looking at the scan and knowing more. Would be happy to provide a virtual consult if needed. Best of luck! ...Read more

If this is something you worry about a lot, mention it to one of your parents, a close adult friend, or a school counselor. A lot of people have these kinds of worries and you can get help to not worry so much. ...Read more
