As long as there are: No shooting pains or weakness in your legs it is likely a pulled or strained muscle. Anti-inflammatory meds like Ibuprofen or Naproxen can help. Take as directed. The swelling more concerning. If pain worsens or same intensity last more than 2 weeks should consult orthopedic surgeon for exam and mri. Can take 6 weeks to completely heal. ...Read more

Common causes are: Arthritis at the base of the thumb or in the wrsit at the stt joint. Post traumatic issues, old injuries (example your 18 fall and it felt beter after 3 days and you forgot about it, tendonitis, carpal tunnel and others. After 3 months its time to get evaluated. Yes: Yes, but if the pain does not disappear, the cause needs to be identified. It can be tendon/joint problems (arthritis, tendinitis, etc.) or nerve disease (carpal tunnel syndrome, etc.). Not likely: It may be the position of your hand during foreplay. Extremes of wrist flexion or extension may put pressure on the median nerve, inside the carpal tunnel. Thumb arthritis is also a common cause of hand pain. Either of these conditions could be your problem.
