Continue to monitor: I would continue to monitor it. It depending upon where along the clavicle you are experiencing the tenderness it could be a bone bruise, muscle or joint sprain or even tender lymph nodes. In the absence of trauma, decreased function or worsening of symptoms, watching waiting would be appropriate. Certainly, see your primary care physician if it worsens. ...Read more

Costochondritis: By now costochondritis should have resolved. Would check chest XR or chest CT and also may consider mammogram. Any pain on shoulder or arm movement? Any parathesias? Bumps or lumps? Abscess: You may be describing an abscess or pus pocket eg painful swelling. Best to go see your Family Doc ASAP for evaluation & treatment as you may need to get swelling lanced & drained then started on antibiotics. Go to Urgent Care or ER if necessary. You may apply warmth/heat temporarily if necessary. In meantime, mark circumference of swelling w/indelible pen to give docs some idea of spread. ...Read more

Inflammation: It depends on how long ago your AC joint decompression was. If the surgery was recently, it may be irritated/inflamed from surgery (positioning?) or from certain rehab exercises or overcompensation to protect AC joint. If the surgery was several months/years ago, there could be a small cartilage injury or some arthritis in the SC joint. This joint can become lax and get excess motion too. ...Read more

Office: None of the symptoms seem to be acute enough to prompt er visit. If your pain is unbearable or your condition is accompanied by high fever and/or shortness of breath or other symptoms that are worsening, er visit may be appropriate but based on your presentation, office visit or at least urgent care will be the best. ...Read more
