Is it ok for a person with congestive heart failure ride a roller coaster?

Is it ok for a person with congestive heart failure ride a roller coaster?

Not recommended: Roller coasters can produce 4-5 g's (atmospheric pressures) of pressure pushing against the body during the ride. The heart has to pump against this kind of pressure. Any sustained pressure makes it more difficult for the heart to pump both into the body and into the lungs and brain. Somebody with congestive heart failure could get into big trouble with their lungs or even cause a heart attack. ...Read more

Had a bi-lateral pneumothorax 15 years ago at 31.Had the pleurodesis op done. Been on 3 hours flights before. Is there a danger on long haul flights?

You should be ok: Spontaneous pneumothorax occurs when a congenital bleb ruptures, leaking air into the space (pleural cavity) between the lung and rib cage. Pleurodesis is a procedure in which the pleural space is artificially obliterated by inducing adhesion formation between the lung lining and the rib cage lining. There is no evidence that air travel precipitates recurrence of a pneumothorax. ...Read more

5 years ago I underwent a VATS pleurodesis on my left lung after a ruptured bullea from COPD caused a pneumothorax, can I take a long haul flight?

Prior to travel,: I would suggest a chest radiograph to document complete resolution of the pneumothorax seven days prior to travel . The VATS procedure does lower your risk of another pneumothorax in that area, but your underlying bullae associated with your COPD should be checked prior to air travel.
A pulmonary function test may also be ordered by your respiratory specialist. ...Read more

Intense pain attacks around left lung area, its been 6 years now & they still happen twice a day, I've had 4 pneumothorax & a cardiac ablation in past?

Symptom timing?: Catheter ablations in the heart can rarely cause complications in nearby organs. Pneumothorax would be a very unusual complication after ablation and i wonder if you have had a pneumothorax before the ablation? Some people are susceptible to pneumothorax but it sounds like you should see a lung specialist to figure out if there is something going on that requires treatment. ...Read more
