Costochondritis: Point tenderness is a symptom of costochondritis (tenderness in the cartilage between the ribs). Try putting ice on fhe painful spot and try tylenol/ibuprofen. Some heart problems such as pericarditis (inflammation in the sac around the heart) can cause pain. Blood clots in the lung (pulmonary embolus) can cause chest pain. Maybe that's problem: "transfer dysphagia" is a problem moving the food bolus from your mouth to the top of the esophagus; "transit dysphagia" is a problem transiting the food down the esophagus. Motility studies (modified barium swallow with speech therapist; esophageal manometry) ; GI imaging (endoscopic or radiographic) may identify problem. Muscle spasm: This could be a muscle spasm. I have heard this description many times before. Hernias do not occur in the upper abdomen by the rib cage. They do occur in the middle.
