Common issue: During a cold many of the membranes in the upper airway & middle ear are swollen. This can affect the ability of the Eustachian tube. Depends: If sudafed helps, you should as long as it does not produce side effects - insomnia, blood pressure etc. However since you have received only partial relief from sudafed, you should check with your doctor to get something more effective. See your doc: This can be slow to clear on its own. Feel like you have a fish bowl over your head? If you no longer have fluid or an infection in the middle ear then sometimes we resort to a course of Prednisone (which does carry a risk of rare but serious side effects). Follow-up needed: If you have history of environmental allergies the sinuses are usually congested also fluid could build up behind the tympanic membrane causing ears to be congested.
