How does rhinocort and sudafed affect your ear health?

How does rhinocort and sudafed affect your ear health?

Can help: If you have eustachian tube dysfunction (problems equalizing ear pressure) those meds can sometimes help. Sudafed is not a good medication for long term use, however, especially if you have high blood pressure or a heart problem. Discuss with your doctor or ent. Those medicines will generally not affect balance problems or hearing loss which is not due to fluid build up on the ear. Best wishes. ...Read more

Dr said I had fluid in my ear. I took sudafed for two days, is that enough? Or what do I need to do? I cant even tell I have fluid

Get rechecked: It is hard to tell if you have no symptoms but if you did have fluid in your ears, Sudafed for 2 days would not likely do the job. People with fluid in the ears usually notice a sensation of ear fullness (plugging) and/or hearing loss. ...Read more

Common issue: During a cold many of the membranes in the upper airway & middle ear are swollen. This can affect the ability of the Eustachian tube. This tube drains mucus & also allows air into that space to maintain correct pressure across the eardrum. The cracking he hears is the tube opening/closing. This should self correct in time. Pain, fever or the nuisance factor can be your guide to when a visit is needed ...Read more

Should I continue to take sudafed if my ears are not fully clear?

Depends: If sudafed helps, you should as long as it does not produce side effects - insomnia, blood pressure etc. However since you have received only partial relief from sudafed, you should check with your doctor to get something more effective. Some times a plugged ear is not really a plugged ear at all. ...Read more

See your doc: This can be slow to clear on its own. Feel like you have a fish bowl over your head? If you no longer have fluid or an infection in the middle ear then sometimes we resort to a course of Prednisone (which does carry a risk of rare but serious side effects). Sometime OTC Afrin nasal spray can give temporary relief but DO NOT use more than 3 days or you might get hooked because of rebound. ...Read more

Taking zyrtec (cetirizine) & sudafed for allergy symptoms from eustachian td. Sit/stand symptoms are gone. When I lay down though, my inner ears & body itch. Why?

Allergies?: Technically, the inner ear shouldn't itch, but the middle ear behind the eardrum can itch. Seasonal allergies can frequently present with body and middle ear itching, at least partly due to widespread histamine release in allergic reaction, even once the eustachian tubes clear and equilibrium is back to normal.
