NO proven benefit: You are free to consult any practitioner you believe may be able to help your situation, however there is no proven benefit to naturopathic approach to vasculitis. Often holistic approach just slower than pharmacologic, so if not in a hurry, can opt for that. Also, controls not the same on holistic herbs/meds, can have heavy metals / wrong agents / etc. ...Read more

Still a low dose.: Most of my patients in my rheumatology practice who are adults with arthritis, myositis, or other disease responsive to mtx, my doses are typically 15-25mg given by subcutaneous injection weekly. This dose would give GI upset to people taking the same oral dose! I have children usually taking 10-15mg weekly. I have no one on that low a dose. Biggest complaint: women who experience hair loss. ...Read more

The oral dosage is more problematic because of variable absorption and first-pass effect through liver. It is completely absorbed with sucutaneous injection and doesn't bolus liver. Yes. Agree, but....: Methotrexate can be very effective. However, the first studies raising the specter of liver disease came from psoriasis patients on daily low dose oral mtx!. The first pass effect is dangerous for the liver. Mtx cannot be adjudicated aqs an oral drug. Absorption is variable (40-90%), causes GI upset, and hits the liver first. I only use subcutaneous mtx once weekly. This is the safest! ...Read more
