Reverse Pressure Softening (Overview)

Reverse pressure softening (RPS) is a method to improve latching during the first two weeks after birth. It is a simple intervention that is based on gentle positive pressure to soften the area of the areola surrounding the base of the nipple. This temporarily moves fluid backward and upward into the breast. RPS may be performed by the doctor or lactation consultant, and can even be taught to the mother over the telephone.

For BP, is it healthier to actually have the proportion between the values of systolic and diastolic pressures to be a certain value? i.e. 120/80=1.5

Ratio not important: The ratio of systolic to diastolic pressures is meaningless and is not how doctors evaluate blood pressure. It's the actual numbers that are important. 150/100 also is a ratio of 1.5, but dangerously high. 110/73 has the same ratio but very low risk. Discuss your BP with your own doctor. 120/80 isn't bad, but s/he might suggest you monitor it to assure the diastolic isn't usually over 80. ...Read more
