I had a radical hysterectomy for cerv cancer, went through radiation & chemo, scan shows ventral hernia now. Did surgery cause this...Surgery?

Ventral/incisional?: It is important to distinguish if the ventral hernia is incisional. If so, en the surgery and subsequent radiation may have had something to do with this but may have been worth the risk to treat the cancer! ...Read more

Dad,Oscar, was told stage 4 lung cancer 2.5 wks ago. 1/3 sz brain tumor removed. 3 brain lesions. In bones&pos liver. Would u cyperknife brain tomorrow?

It depends: If you are 76, your Dad must be late 80s or early 90s. At such an advanced age it may not be worth being so aggressive with terminal cancer that at such advanced stage means he has only few weeks to few months left. However, if his desire is to be aggressive, Cyberknife is an effective an low risk procedure and I would recommend it highly. Otherwise, hospice care is very appropriate. ...Read more

Biopsy showed necrotic granduloma lung adenocarcinoma. What can I expect?

Biopsy showed necrotic granduloma lung adenocarcinoma. What can I expect?

Sounds like lung Can: Your biopsy shows cancer, likely arising in your lung. You need to see an oncologist who can run more tests to do the staging. This means trying to determine if it is localized to one spot or could it have spread inside the body. The stage will determine the type of appropriate treatment. ...Read more

My friend diagnosed stage 4 inoperablel lung cancer.6 rounds of chemo shrunk tumor but tumors in adrenals grew. She was diagnosed in march.Prognosis?

Cosider localtherapy: I think the lung cancer can metastasize to the adrenal gland either by the lymphatic or the hematogenous route. In case of metastasis by the lymphatic route, it can be a solitary metastasis, and the prognosis can be relatively better. If the patient is young and in good performance status, aggressive treatment(stereotactic radiotherapy or even removal) can be considered in very selected case. ...Read more

Friend just diagnosed with mixed glioblastoma... Stage 2. Surgery removed 90% tumor. What could his prognosis be like?

Not clear: Not certain if you mean glioma-grade 2. By definition, if you say glioblastoma (gbm), that is grade 4. There is a big difference in prognosis. Gbm have a mean survival of 14 months with maximum surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, although there are many surviving 3-4 years with newer treatments. With grade 2, the average survival is on the order of 10-12 years depending on molecular markers. ...Read more

Dad n law diagnosed Adenocarcinoma stage IIA. Had surgery 2 remove lobe & removed 1 infect. lympnode & infect. pluris. What's General life expectancy?

Lung CA: I'm sorry to hear your family is going through this difficult time. It sounds like he has lung CA with metastasis. Has he started Chemo or radiation. This may help keep him comfortable and/or prevent further metastasis. You need to discuss his prognosis with his HEM/ONC. Either way he should get his affairs in order. My father had hodgkins chemo killed original cancer but whilst having chemo non hodgkin's grew chemo didnt work now spread brain lung how much time?

Be prepared: Advancing lymphoma that is not responsive to treatment usually means a relatively short life span remains, so it is best to prepare and enjoy the present with your loved one. Occasionally, clinical trials of newer drugs may be available for people who have failed conventional treatments, but these are "last ditch" attempts and may not increase survival much, but do help us to learn for future pts. ...Read more

Tx or no tx: I am sorry about your mom's condition. She has been going through a lot. But she should discuss carefully with her doctor about her options- that would include- systemic chemo plus minus biological therapy ( avastin, (bevacizumab) zal-trap, stivarga, cetuximab) vs hospice care. Consider pros and cons of each therapy. Ultimately is her decision about what she wants to do. Good luck and god bless. ...Read more

Dad recently gt diag tongue cancer after a non healing ulcer, submucous fibrosis & oral carcinoma started 2 months ago. Will he die soon? Prognosis?

Sorry to hear that!: The prognosis depends on the type of cancer and the state of the cancer when diagnosed. If your dad allows it, go with him to his doctors' appointments as this is discussed. Any patient with a complicated illness should take someone close to them to appointments, because another pair of ears can help understanding & recall. Take notes. Have questions prepared beforehand. It's good of you to care. ...Read more

We all are: A 3-word question with no details... well, life is short on Earth, regardless of whether a person lives 3 days, 3000 days, or 30,000 days.
