Is retinol 0.9% weaker, stronger or even with the strength of tretnoin 0.04% ( retin a (tretinoin) micro). Will retin a (tretinoin) micro 0.04 % make a difference on my face?

Retinol vrs Retin A (tretinoin): Significantly less people respond to retinol creams than to retinoic acid [tretinoin, retin a], and the degree of response tends to be less too. In theory, you should be able to apply retinol to the skin, wait till it gets converted to retinoic acid, however the conversion rate is low and varies greatly among individuals. ...Read more

I want to use a glycolic acid cleanser followed by a salicylic toner followed by a retinol serum. How much time should I leave in between?

I want to use a glycolic acid cleanser followed by a salicylic toner followed by a retinol serum. How much time should I leave in between?

Let it dry.: Be sure you dilute and remove all of the glycolic and let skin dry completely before applying the salicylic. You may get irritation with retinol over the salicylic, so best to let it dry first and if so, don't use them together. You could use a hair dryer on cool to make this quicker. Good luck! ...Read more

Is it ok to use neutrogena pore refining exfoliating cleanser and then wait a while and apply retin-a micro at night ? Its an alpha/beta hydroxy wash

Try it: It may be a bit much and excessively drying to use that combination. If you tolerate it and it does not dry your skin out too much, go for it as we love tretinoin as an acne medication and "wrinkle cream". ...Read more

Which is better for wrinkles on your face Retin A, (tretinoin) Glycolic Acid or a product containing Retinol. I'm confused. Tyvm?

Tretinoin and Retinol come from Vit.A . Retin A:brand of Tretinoin, best effect, mostirritation,Script only. Retinol :midpotency, midirritant, OTC Glycolic acid is from Sugar. When using Retin A (tretinoin) and Hydroquinone can you apply the Hydroquinone after applying the Retin A (tretinoin) ? Will that work best for brown spots. Thank you

When using Retin A (tretinoin) and Hydroquinone can you apply the Hydroquinone after applying the Retin A (tretinoin) ? Will that work best for brown spots. Thank you

Yes: Yes, i usually have patients apply the retin-A first. Give it 15-20 minutes to absorb and then apply the Hydroquinone. I usually recommend hydroquinone as spot therapy rather than the whole face and recommend a non-hydroquinone product to lighten the whole face. Can I use collagen boosting moisturizer above the retinoid (retacnyl tretinoin) ? Also, is the use of a retinoid compatible with breastfeeding?

Not while breastfeed: Don"t use a retinoid while breastfeeding - it has never been studied and could be harmful. The other stuff is a waste of money as these creams and lotions have no way to penetrate the skin and "boost" collagen. ...Read more

I use a pricey .03% retinol cream on my face. Would the benefits be the same if i mixed generic tretinoin cream with a moisturizer?

I use a pricey .03% retinol cream on my face. Would the benefits be the same if i mixed generic tretinoin cream with a moisturizer?

Difficult to say: Not all moisturizers are equal and you should use a non-comedogenic mositurizer. Furthermore not all delivery vehicles or preparations are equivalent. Microspheres allows a time release effect that is more gentle on skin. Furthermore separation of the two components allows you to increase the potency as you build tolerance. I am a fan of the component approach albeit the inconvenience. ...Read more
