Saliva cortisol tests are abnormally low. Serum cortisol tests are normal. Dr says i don't need an acth stim test due to serum results. Agree?
Yes: If your saliva cortisol tests are low, then you have adrenal insufficiency. Acth stim test will only help determine if the cause is in the adrenal glands, pituitary gland or hypothalamus. Without other hormonal abnormalities or abnormal levels of sodium or potassium, this test is generally not needed and treatment for the adrenal insufficiency can be done. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I show symptoms of adrenal insufficiency. I did an acth plasma test which showed 25.00 and serum cortisol that showed 145ng?
ACTH stim: I don't understand the units of measure for either acth or cortisol. If there is any question of addison's disease i would expect a very elevated acth level. Secondary adrenal insufficiency concern might merit a low/hi dose acth stim test. If you have secondary adrenal insufficiency you may also need a MRI of your brain and pituitary in addition to looking into other pituitary hormone deficiency. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I just received my blood test results which showed a ca-125 reading of 35. The blood test results showed hyper chromic microcytic anaemia.
Benign: A Ca 125 of 35 was found to be a useful cutoff point, with 99% of healthy women having values less than 35. Levels above 35 units are certainly seen in healthy women, but beyond the cutoff point of 35, the higher the value, the more likely there is trouble. With ovarian cancer, the levels measure in hundreds. Depends on what you are looking for. Repeat the test. You probably need some iron tabs. ...Read more
Is FT4 correct?: Your TSH appears normal. Did you have a typp with the ft4, as a value of 15 is an order of magnitude too high. 1.5 would be normal. Another possibility is that the 15 is a T4 not a ft4. Either way, it's hard to tell but probably normal. Check w/your doctor. ...Read more
What negative results in paraneoplastic serum panel mean? What the like hood to have the neurology syndrome with negative results?

Big picture: If you have self-diagnosed "adrenal axis disorder" based on something you read on the internet, but your acth stimulation test did not allow the diagnosis of addisonism, you're in no danger. Your life situation and perspectives may be making you feel this way and perhaps they can be adjusted. True addisonism is rare but does still get missed ; repeat testing in a few months may be in order. ...Read more
