Caution: More important than absolute dose of restoril, (temazepam) which shouldn't exceed 30 mg at night, are frequency and duration of use. With daily use for over a month you can become tolerant to its benefits for sleep and anxiety, but experience withdrawal if you don't take it, so you use it to avoid withdrawal even though it no longer helps. Avoid using more than 4 nights/week; try to use for under 3 months. ...Read more
More important, why?: 60 mg Restoril (temazepam) is hefty dose; and raises hte question why so much? Taken over time resistance/tolerance can occur, leading to escalating doses. Which cannot be continued indefinitely. There are other options for most people. There are recent findings that all meds in this general class, including Alprazolam, taken over a decade can have subtle long term consequences. Discuss with your md.. ...Read more
Yes: The usual dose of Restoril (temazepam) is 15-30 mg. 150 mg is a potential overdose. While benzodiazepines alone rarely cause fatal overdose, it can cause people to sleep for prolonged periods of time, which itself can cause damage to organs (sleeping in one position causes pressure on skin and muscle, and potentially even underlying organs). More dangerous if combined with alcohol or other drugs. ...Read more
Very drowsy: In my practice, the average dose of Restoril (temazepam) is 15 - 30 mgs at bedtime. Depending on a multitude of your personal health factors, you may get a good night's sleep, you may sleep for 24 hours, you may be extremely drowsy the next day. A lot also depends on what other medications you are taking. ...Read more
No easy answer: It depends on your age, size, and general health. Also, "overdosing" isn't a sharp line crossed at one exact dose... There are mild overdoses, severe overdoses, and lethal overdoses. In general, adults shouldn't exceed 30 mg at a time. Taking more than this may result in deep or prolonged sedation, temporary confusion or delirium, and at higher doses, respiratory depression and death. ...Read more

Will I become dependent on restoril (temazepam) 5mg if I only take about 2-3 times a week? Some nights I don't need it.
Different problem: Rather than becoming dependent - you'd notice that it stopped working. It's intended for very short term use (or very intermittent). You'd find you needed more than one pill and that would be the danger. Be very careful. Try very hard to find better ways to deal w/ getting to sleep. If you find it's not working, DON'T increase the dose! Used as you plan, you may be fine. ...Read more

Not advised: Ativan (lorazepam) and Restoril (temazepam) are both benzodiazepine tranquilizers. Their effects can add together in a potentially dangerous way. That said, sometimes doctors prescribe both, with careful instructions to take them at different times (Ativan during the day, Restoril only at night). Since "benzos" are addictive, taking 2 different kinds is doubly risky. ...Read more

Drowsiness: The combination of these two drugs would not generally be recommended because of side effects. Percocet is a strong narcotic and is a moderate dose. One of the common side effects of narcotics is drowsiness and it can suppress your breathing. Restoril (temazepam) is a sleeping aid and can have the same effects, in fact, this is the desired effect of Restoril (temazepam). I'd recommend NOT taking these together. ...Read more
Not a good idea: Halcion is triazolam, and Restoril is temazepam. Both are benzodiazepine sleeping pills. Their effects are very similar — Restoril lasts longer — and would add together if taken at the same time. It is considered poor medical practice to take multiple medications that do the same thing: the results are less predictable and more drug interactions can result. Both meds are habit-forming too. ...Read more
