BP: Rule of thumb. To low and you get symptoms, Too high and you get organ damage (heart eyes kidneys brain colon etc.). So there is not an absolute number although there are published guidelines. If you have no light headed, dizzy, etc. it is high enough and the lower it is the less long term organ damage. Yours is good. ...Read more

What exactly is defined as "resting blood pressure". Ie..How many minutes of rest is a good measure of real blood pressure? And how often should check

Resting BP.: One should not check BP regularly unless directed by their doc. To assess whether one has hypertension or whether control is adequate one should measure BP twice in am ( separated by a minute or two) and twice in pm for 3 and better 7 days. Feet should be planted on floor and without restriction - no talking. No prior tobacco or caffeine. ...Read more

Why do blood pressure recommendations say rest 5 minutes before checking? If your constantly active through out the day, wouldnt this be a false read?

Why do blood pressure recommendations say rest 5 minutes before checking? If your constantly active through out the day, wouldnt this be a false read?

Blood Pressure: Excellent question. Blood pressure is typically measured while sitting and resting arm at heart level . But why? Blood pressure increases in response to stressors such as exercise & work. The average level is thought to matter most but the American Heart Association believes diurnal variation & short term variability contribute to pathology.Read: http://circ.ahajournals.org/content/111/5/697.full ...Read more

Will I have to be on blood pressure medicine for the rest of my life?

Will I have to be on blood pressure medicine for the rest of my life?

Maybe (not) . . .: Forever (and rest of your life) is a very long time/commitment. The question is best addressed by & with your family doc. For instance, how high was/is your blood pressure (BP)? Any other complicating conditions? Can you lower your BP w/lifestyle modifications? Quit smoking! Exercise regularly! Eat healthy! Lose belly fat! Do all that to at least lower dose of meds, maybe drop 1 or more from regim ...Read more

Exercise: The body goes through changes during an exercise to keep up with your body's increased need of oxygen. The heart pumps faster and stronger. Blood pressure goes up as well. This is a normal response to stress. That is why accurate blood pressure is measured in a steady and relaxed state. ...Read more

My lower number of my blood pressure is high i don't know what to do.It's verysensitive to any kind of caffeine if i don't get enough rest. Why?

Blood pressure meds: When your lower number (diastolic) of your blood pressure is high- you probably have hypertension and should be on a blood pressure medication. Caffeine should be avoided- anytime but particularly when hypertensive. Getting rest may help, but please see your health care professional for follow up and stay on your medication. ...Read more

My HR is consistently around 84bpm resting, but today has only been at 70-74bpm resting average. Blood pressure is normal. Should I be concerned?

My HR is consistently around 84bpm resting, but today has only been at 70-74bpm resting average. Blood pressure is normal. Should I be concerned?

Probably not: A RESTING heart rate is measured after 5 minutes of no exercise, sitting or preferably laying flat, in a darkened room with all lights/sounds off. Most heart rate measurements are not true "resting" heart rates, so an decrease to 70 may have confounding factors (it's not significant). A change from 84 to 70 is not significant, then, but a drop to less than 60 would worry me. (Normal range 60-100/m ...Read more
