URL for Neuro or ID: Viral, fungal or tuberculin are likely and less likely bacteria. Your friend still needs a diagnosis. Mri brain and eeg are recommended as both can show certain patterns in japanse encephaliits. Serological and nucleaic acid testing for the viral and other potential bugs should be undertaken. Arthopod borne encephalitis can be very difficult to treat, and there is potential brain injury which can be permanent. Assuming good outcome, likely about 6-9 months to return to level of prior functioning. Suggest a conference with the treatment team, plans for rehab, and their opinion regarding prognosis.
