Husband's renogram report says relative uptake 39% and poor relative function with obstruction in right kidney. Does it mean kidney removal?

Husband's renogram report says relative uptake 39% and poor relative function with obstruction in right kidney. Does it mean kidney removal?

Yes or not...: Nuclear diuretic renal scan is used to roughly assess the percentage of total function contributed from each kidney so to decide if worthwhile to remove a severely damaged kidney or to decide and plan to remove a kidney with cancer which could not be managed with trans-ureteroscopic approach. If such a kidney is removed, possible dialysis may be required. So, ask surgeon for detailing... Best... ...Read more

My urologist orders a diunetic renogram with grf estimation. I have asthama, how can I avoid alergic reaction that may be caused by ranogram?

My urologist orders a diunetic renogram with grf estimation. I have asthama, how can I avoid alergic reaction that may be caused by ranogram?

Are you allergic to: Lasix (furosemide)? That is the diuretic most commonly used in the us when performing a diuretic renogram. Also, is it a GFR nuclear renogram? If so, the radiopharmaceutical used is usually 99mtc-dtpa and I am not aware of patients being allergic to it. If iodinated contrast is to be used, low osmolar is most common, and asthmatics have no appreciable increased reaction risk ("allergy") to it. ...Read more

I had a renogram done and it showed that my rt kidney was dilated without obstruction. The renal function was also noted as symmetric. what causes thi?

Incidental finding: It is usually the after effects of something that occurred in the past and dilated the collecting system. For example, urinary reflux (where urine can backflowfrom the bladder into the ureter) can dilate the collecting system. It generally occurs in infancy or childhood, can in some cases cause no symptoms, and often resolves. Dilated collecting system can also be congenital) ...Read more

What do you suggest if my dad renogram left kideny :non visulaization on CT stone 3.5, right kideny GFR 34,creat 1.3 ?

See nephrologist: This is very low kidney function and should be evaluated by a nephrologist and, given the stone, possibly a urologist. Renal function this low can progress to need for dialysis and should be taken seriously. Recommend following up with ordering physician. If that physician is general primary care, ask for referral to a specialist. ...Read more

Am I dying?

We all are: A 3-word question with no details... well, life is short on Earth, regardless of whether a person lives 3 days, 3000 days, or 30,000 days.
