Can a renal function lab test detect if a kidney stone is developing?

Can a renal function lab test detect if a kidney stone is developing?

No: There is no specific lab test that detects kidney stones. Only imaging of the kidneys can definitely detect if you have a kidney stone. The renal function test and urine test can help determine the cause of the kidney stones. Once knowing the origin, you can be placed on a specific diet or medicine to prevent the stones from re-appearing. ...Read more

I have serum creatinine 31 *10* mol/l in my renal function test .So how can I improve it ?

Abnormal renal tests: You will need to see a nephrologist to have a renal ultrasound and a 24 hour urine collection for a creatinine clearance and protein. And more blood work. If there is some drug toxic to the kidney, ibuprofen, stopping it will help. If you have some obstruction of your urinary outflow tract, relieving it will help as well. Depending on what caused your abnormal tests, you may not be able to improve. ...Read more

I have neprhocalcinosis, today I had a renal function test done and my BUN was 7 & chloride 112, other levels normal. What could this mean?

Labs: Your BUN is lower and maybe a reflection of your protein intake but doesn't mean disease. BUN levels are governed by many reasons including kidney function protein intake liver issues. Assuming you have no issue low BUN is more diet. Your chloride is high normal and should hair be repeated. These labs have to be looked in totality and don't mean disease. Best of luck ...Read more

What is significance of small bilateral renal cortical cysts if renal function tests are normal?

What is significance of small bilateral renal cortical cysts if renal function tests are normal?

Not much, but: Need a follow up ultrasound in a few years to see if increasing suggestive of polycystic kidney disease (pkd). If this is the case there is a chance to lose kidney function over long years. It is not a cancer. But increasing cysts number and size can overtake kidneys. Chances are, none of that will happen to you. But, better safe than sorry. Pkd is a benign and slow condition but may cause failure. ...Read more

What are the best tests to accurately measure renal function and to rule out kub ultrasound finding "renal parenchymal disease"? Thank you.

What are the best tests to accurately measure renal function and to rule out kub ultrasound finding "renal parenchymal disease"? Thank you.

Serum creatinine : Is helpful blood test to evaluate renal function. Renal parenchymal disease means scarring in the kidney however the ultrasound is highly operator dependent and results may vary on subsequent tests. My advice if your blood test are normal than ultrasound findings can be ignored. See a nephrologist if you are overly concerned for reassurance. Thanks. ...Read more
