Removal of tonsil stones from vallecula?

Removal of tonsil stones from vallecula?

Not from vallecula: The vallecula is a gutter between the epiglottis and base of tongue that is covered with the lingual tonsils. The palatine tonsils sit just lateral to, the vallecula. Tonsil stones are usually from actinomyces bacteria from the mouth that get into crypts in the tonsils and could spill into the vallecula. Normal swallowing should be able to clear the vallecula.

Removal of tonsils in most of my boomer adult friends. Why did they do that to us kids?

Removal of tonsils in most of my boomer adult friends. Why did they do that to us kids?

Pressing reality: The push to avoid the dreaded tonsillitis had been commonplace for a hundred years, before antibiotics & general anesthesia. It was a socially acceptable approach to a frequent problem & we had little research to counter demand, similar to bloodletting & purges. Once the process was studied & detail & we understood the immune system better, the docs pushed back.

Maybe: Tonsil stones are just particles of food and mucous that have been pushed into the crypts or infolds of the tonsils during the act of swallowing. They are harmless and common. Removal of enlarged tonsils, 20 lb wt loss cured severe osa. Debating orthodontic braces but need teeth extracted. Can teeth removals reintroduce osa?

NO: But, correcting a bad bite will make your life more comfortable. If you have 12 cars and 10 parking spaces the cars will not fit. The same is true with the teeth. The orthodontist can push the teeth out of the parking lot (tip them off the bone which is not healthy) or extract teeth and utilize the space to align them, you are better off to do nothing if you decline extractions.
