Mirtazepine (remeron) is a noradrenergic/specific serotonergic antidepressant [nassa]. It is used for major depressive d/o, various anxiety disorders, chronic pain, and others. Sleep study showed arousal 36 times per hour. Treated for ptsd with remeron (mirtazapine) and prozasin. Should i be on stimulant during the day for hypersomnia?
Can't tell with info: Unfortunately, the number of arousals does not correlate with the degree of sleepiness. Arousals are not the same as awakenings. Therefore, with the information you've given me I cannot tell you whether you should be on any type of medication for hypersomnolence. That is something that you will have to discuss with your sleep physician. Best wishes. ...Read more
Could you please tell me if remeron (mirtazapine) increases chlosterol or is it the increased appetite from them.my chlos was always under 4.5. Its now 5.3. Thanks?
Maybe . . .: Yes Remeron can be added to Cymbalta (duloxetine) but you need to discuss this w/you're prescribing physician, preferably the one prescribing both. More concerning is that your Medications list doesn't show Cymbalta (duloxetine) but rather Zoloft, Risperdal & Ativan. While side effects of Zoloft are comparable to Cymbalta (duloxetine), Risperdal & Ativan carry other potential complications. Bottom line, check w/your psychiatrist. ...Read more
Currently taking mirtazapine (remeron) 22.5mg. It helps w/ insomnia and appetite but not anxiety/panic. What would be a good second med/combo with remeron to help with panic/anxiety?
See below: Talk to your prescribing provider as s/he is the most familiar with you and your medical history. Meanwhile, try to establish daily routine to bring some predictability in your day; practice deep breathing, relaxation/ guided imagery (you can find scripts on the web); you can work with a therapist to help you guide through the process. Be well! ...Read more
Currently takes remeron for sleep and appetite stimulation. Not helping depression. Can adding Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) help? Read about "California rocket fuel."
Hard to say: You don't give the dose or how long you have been on it. Remeron (mirtazapine) used to help sleep or increase appetite is usually in lower doses (7.5 to 15 mg/day) while the antidepressant effects are more likely at 30-60 mg per day. You have to be on it long enough between dose increases to see an effect, which can be 4-6 weeks. Is someone prescribing it? If so, THAT is where your advice should come from. ...Read more
My appetite is gone. Force myself to eat. Stress? Remeron gave me an appetite but raised my triglycerides. Lexapro (escitalopram) makes nausea worse. What will help?
Get seen: I'm concerned you have a physical lesion obstructing your gut. Even if you don't, you need to find the reason. Sensible people -- even physicians -- don't buy "stress" as an easy answer. "Eustress" is good -- it motivates you to excel. "Distress" means you're helpless / feel helpless; if you're in an abusive situation, your physician can perhaps help u escape;are you so strung out you can't eat? ...Read more
Is it ok to take Dalmane or Restoril (temazepam) with klonopin and seroquel? The Remeron just gives me too much appetite.
Talk to your doctor : It might be better to increase the dose of your Seroquel. I would avoid adding another benzodiazepine such as Dalmane or Restoril (temazepam). You are already taking Klonopin (a benzodiazepine). It's best to avoid polypharmacy and the risk of addiction. Also, you could develop rebound insomnia which means you can't sleep even though you are on medication for sleep. Talk to your doctor. ...Read more

Wouldn't: Don't stop medication without consulting the prescribing doctor. ...Read more

Nausea, diarrhea, no appetite since may. Remeron (mirtazapine) helped but caused weight gain and high blood sugars so I stopped. Have seen GI and gp. What is wrong?
Lack of appetite, insom, anx. Take 0.5mg Xanax (alprazolam) bedtime only. Coming off remeron. Rem. Made blood sugar high. Would like to try 5htp or st. John's wort?
Which antidepressant, other than remeron, (mirtazapine) will help control daily nausea, anxiety, sleep disturbances, digestive issues, lack of appetite.
Everyone's different: If there was one perfect antidepressant for everybody, there would only need to be one on the market. The fact that there are many ones means that everyone is different. It may take a while to find just the right medicine for you. Hang in there. It will be worth the wait. ...Read more
Would a 15mg tablet of mirtazapine/remeron work same way as cutting half a 30mg tablet? Might be silly question but wonder if there's an actual difference. E.g. I heard 15mg tab is more sedating. What about half of 30mg tab? Thanks in advance.
Dont think so:
Sounds like you are having exactly the same dose as 1/2 of 30mg = 15mg so same dose would likely have same effects.
For specific advice you could ask a pharmacist or doctor licensed in your area. ...Read more

There is ? Of: Remeron (mirtazapine) withdrawal. On nov, 28, 2013: 11, 727 people reported to have side effects when taking remeron (mirtazapine). Among them, 308 people (2.63%) have drug withdrawal syndrome. This means that only 308 people have reported withdrawal symptoms so far when millions of people have taken the drug. In light of this, and inview of the many other medications that the patients were taking at the time, it is really difficult to state for sure whether there is a Remeron (mirtazapine) withdrawal syndrome. It has a long half-lifeso tapering is generally not necessary. About 75% of the people that complained of a withdrawal syndrome had only taken the medication for one month. Those who had taken it for longer periods of time were less likely to complain of a withdrawal. I think it simply has to be said that question as to the existence of a true withdrawal syndrome with Remeron (mirtazapine) remains somewhat open. If you however are experiencing it, please contact you're treating physician and perhaps reinstating it briefly with a slower taper will make it more tolerable for you. Best wishes. ...Read more
