Debating on whether to start my antidepressants again i used to take remeron now im switched 2 lexapro (escitalopram)..How do these exactly prevent anxiety attacks?

Discuss this with Dr: Hopefully your dr (or others) can explain too. Drugs will not prevent pas, in fact they can be side effects of those drugs. That said, those are both used for tx of anxiety as well as both being prescribed in depression. I'd like to suggest trying talk therapy too. Cbt can really work for learning ways to both reduce the freq, severity & manage the symptoms you identify. Best wishes. ...Read more

How soon will I feel the effects from remeron (mirtazapine)?

Remeron (mirtazapine) : That would depend on the effect. Remeron (mirtazapine) usually is fairly sedating and you may notice that and other side effects with the first dose. The therapeutic effect, if written for depression, usually takes 1-2 weeks to start to appear and 4-6 weeks to fully be evident at any particular dose. Good luck! ...Read more

Is it a good idea to use remeron instead of zoloft (sertraline)?

Is it a good idea to use remeron instead of zoloft (sertraline)?

Clinical Decision: The selection of one antidepressant over an other is based upon a number of factors. First of all, the fda only grants approval to agents that are as effective as tofranil, (imipramine) one of the first antidepressants. But efficacy varies from person to person and one may be better at the level of the individual. Side effects play a role and can be quite varied. Whatever works best for you is the best choice. ...Read more

Need to be managed: With those medications, it is not something you should do yourself, and you need to be managed by a treating provider, and followed up for periodic assessments and continuity of care. Best wishes. ...Read more

Is there any evidence that 50 mg pristiq (desvenlafaxine) with 30 mg remeron is more effective for depression than just 30 mg remeron alone?

Risky combo: I'm not aware of increased effectiveness but there is evidence of increased risk of a serious condition - serotonin syndrome, a rare but serious and potentially fatal condition thought to result from hyperstimulation of brainstem 5-ht1a and 2a receptors. It is essential to be closely monitored. Tell dr immediately of side effects like confusion, irritability, tremor, sweating, chills, nausea, etc. ...Read more

Weight gain: Weight gain is an unfortunate side effect of mirtazapine (Remeron). The usual reason for the weight gain is the increased appetite that this medication causes. The weight can come off with diet and exercise. However, be sure never to start a diet and/or exercise program without consulting your physician first. ...Read more
