Is there a natural remedy to shrink a goiter?

Goiter: I know of no "natural" remedy for goiter. Synthroid (thyroxine) is usually the first medicine given, and if that does not help, surgery or radioactive iodine would be the next step. ...Read more

Docs can you explain what is a goiter, its symptoms and treatment?

Docs can you explain what is a goiter, its symptoms and treatment?

Many possibilities: An enlarged thyroid (goiter) has many causes and possible treatments. Is it causing hyper/hypothyroidism (i.e. Graves disease, toxic goiter, hashimotos)? Check tsh, ft4. Maybe anti-tpo. Is the goiter nodular or smooth? This may require an ultrasound, with biopsy of any suspicious nodules. Is it really big and impair your swallowing/breathing? Then maybe surgery. Check with your doctor. ...Read more

I have a nontoxic goiter. Should I be worried? It's not cAusing me any symptoms or issues. Also, what is the treatment for it?

Don't Panic, there: are 3 main types of non-toxic goiter. Worldwide most common cause is iodine def, rare in US. Supplements/inc I in diet may shrink it. In older people in the US multinodular goiter is most common. If no sx's US & bx of any susp nods w tx if nec. Then follow w/US. Hashimoto's (autoimmune) thyroiditis is next. Can cause hypothyroid. Monitor TFT's, tx if nec. If not bothered, mon. If sx's tx exists. ...Read more

What kind of treatment can I get for a goiter when I am allergic to iodine and do not want surgery?

What kind of treatment can I get for a goiter when I am allergic to iodine and do not want surgery?

Goiter: Work with your team, your doc. If you have graves disease and radioactive iodine was recommended, there are several additional medications with benefit. Initial therapy and subsequent result is important for you and your doc to determine subsequent treatments. Don't avoid all care over your iodine and surgery limits. ...Read more

I have 25*14 mm sized cold multi nodular goiter which is benign as per investigation reports. Should i go for surgical treatment?

Nodular goiter: I would not worry about a nodular goiter if the thyroid blood levels are OK and you are not really troubled by slightly enlarged thyroid nodules. That said, if your doctor recommends thyroid surgery you will be referred to a thyroid surgeon who will tell you what needs to be done or what is not necessary to be done, at least for now. ...Read more

I got thyroid goiter nodules on my right side and the size is 1.2x 3.2mmand now this over 2 year so please advice me for the further treatment?

Goiter: You may need to have this checked again soon by your doctor. You probably should have blood test, including a TSH, Free T4, and Free T3, (liothyronine) as well as have your doctor order another ultrasound of your thyroid, to see if the nodules are bigger or mores suspicious, or to see if you now have nodules on the left side as well. ...Read more

Hyperthyroid?: Treatment with thyrozol and Propranolol would be appropriate if you have an overactive thyroid. It will not help if your thyroid level is normal and you simply have an enlarged thyroid. In your age group, the most common cause for hyperthyroidism is graves disease. A goiter is common with this disorder and can resolve with treatment, if you go into remission. ...Read more

I have multinodular goiter. I suffer discomfort and pressure in the neck continuously. Is there any treatment or have to resort to surgery?

Choices: Your physician will be able to discuss with you whether you want radioactive iodine, levothyroxine suppression, or surgery. Reasonable people will make different choices. In your position, i'd get a good surgeon, but you must exercise autonomy after learning of all your options. Good luck. ...Read more

I've been a half deaf for 12 years since i got a goiter.I visited a doctor (12 years ago) & he told me nerve damage. Is there a new treatment nowdays?

Difficult to say: Because it's not clear the association for your goiter with hearing loss, i'd recommend seeing an audiologist and ENT physician (otorhinolaryngologist) for your hearing loss. Let's see if it's actually nerve damage or some other problem. ...Read more

Multinodular goiter dx. Us biopsy of thyroid- benign. What's the treatment for goiter? history of cancer- can't i just get it removed prophylacticly?

Why?: Unless it represents a danger like cancer, or is a severe physical or cosmetic problem, why remove an organ "prophylactically"/ if that were true, why not also "prophylactically" remove your nose, breasts, external ears, toes, one kidney......And all the other parts of your body you don't really need that could potentially cause trouble in the future? ...Read more

Hi. I have a right eye that bulges a little and I feel pressure behind it. I have a large goiter but my blood work is fine so no treatment.headaches 2?

Depends on you: If it were me I'd still feel like I'd want treatment if I thought my bulging eye pressure in my orbit (if it were bothering me) were caused by the goiter & I had headaches which certainly seem like they're at least as likely as not related, don't ya think RATHER than saying, "Labs are normal-- probably nothing to do..." or worse than that for someone to tell you it's all in your head. Just sayin' ...Read more

I had a partial thyroidectomy and the radioactive iodine treatment for the other side due to goiter-nodule with small cancer. Synthroid (thyroxine) reduced-why?

I had a partial thyroidectomy and the radioactive iodine treatment for the other side due to goiter-nodule with small cancer. Synthroid (thyroxine) reduced-why?

For RAI to Work: The overall treatment is a little confusing as cancer is usually surgically removed, but there are a few reasons to lower your Synthroid (thyroxine). It may be held for a while so your left over thyroid tries to work and will suck up the RAI. The other reason is when the thyroid cells die they will release thyroid hormone. This could temp make you hyperthyroid. Eventually your dose will be adjusted again. ...Read more

Goiter: It may that colloid has increased. If tft's are normal there is no indication for the use of synthroid (thyroxine). However given the size you should have a biopsy. If it is cystic this may in fact decrease it in size as well. ...Read more
