Can TMJ cause ears hissing/ringing? Ear dull aches and ear itching? Laying down moving jaw forward changes sound. MRI of ear and brain were good.

Can TMJ cause ears hissing/ringing? Ear dull aches and ear itching? Laying down moving jaw forward changes sound. MRI of ear and brain were good.

Yes Take home test!: It sounds like you have a TMJ problem. The reason the sound changes when you move you jaw forward is you are moving the condyle down and forward freeing the joint to function normally. When you do this usually the sound goes away. (clicking and popping) A good test is to open an close and listen for clicking and popping. Then bite on a cotton tip applicator (Qtip) open and close-no more noise. ...Read more

I get random pain in upper pinna or behind middle of the ear , traced all the way to under the jaw joint. For over 10yrs.Any remedy sans B12 tabs?

Jaw pain: I am assuming you have consulted your primary physician regarding this problem which has been going for so long. I would advice consulting a orofacial pain dentist as you could be having temporomandibular disorders (chronic pain in the jaw). For starters, you could try massaging your jaw couple of times a day; it might help. Also, warm compresses for 10-15 minutes should help too. ...Read more

Head bandage vs headband after otoplasty for prominent ears in adults, which is better?

Head bandage vs headband after otoplasty for prominent ears in adults, which is better?

Why choose?: Each offers benefits. I send patients home with a head wrap for security. Once the wrap is removed, a head band is used at night. It should protect the ears from folding forward, but should not be tight. Tight bands can cause injury to the skin and change the shape of the ear. Be sure to check with your plastic surgeon. ...Read more

Suffering from TMJ for over 1yr. No jaw spint just pt. Ear stuffiness improved but left with terrible tightness in front of ear. Will it go in time?

Treat the cause: Pt won't do much for relieving the symptoms of tmj\tmd. What is most important is to remove or minimize the cause of the problem. This may be an occlusal (bite) problem, misalignment of the jaw from an habitual bite, bruxism, stress, etc. Why is a splint not being used?
