Low serum calcium: If your mother has a low calcium (c) level, her doctor should attempt to find out why. She is on c replacement with persistent low c. Perhaps, at age 56, she has some chronic kidney disease (ckd) that prevents her from having vit. D made by the kidneys allowing her to absorb c from her intestine. If she has ckd, causing low vit.
