Very Effective: Relenza (zanamivir) is a treatment for influenza(flu) that is administered by inhaler. Dose is 2 puffs twice a day for 5 days. It is an alternative to tamiflu which is a pill that is taken twice a day for 5 days. Most patients prefer the pill & the only reason I use Relenza (zanamivir) is if the patient took tamiflu & experienced side effects. Bronchospasm: in general, Relenza (zanamivir) is a safe drug except in asthmatic who are poorly controlled. the drug itself does not cause bronchospasm rather the powder form which is made of. other side effect from pulmonary stand point is the activation of mycoplasma infection , it is poorly understood mechanism on how it occurs in asthmatics as well. overall it is a safe drug. ...Read more
